How-to: +2psi for a cheap $5

i tried this also and saw my boost raise from 5psi stock to 6.5. I cut this spring so it was shorter and it raised it to 7psi. do you think that cutting it more to get to 8psi will do any damage to the wastegate.

I know someone was boosting 8.5-9 psi with the spring and had no problems. But I would be concerned by the diaphragm of the wategate, if that one breaks.....

I have a 12psi wastegate actuator in the MSP. I now have a manual boost controller with an adjustable bleed. I also have an external spring on the wastegate....And I still don't have enough boost.....lol

I have read about you running 12 psi... how long can you run it before the engine blows? Your engine doesn't detonate at all?

he's already blown his engine. I think he was kinda expecting it. He's forged now.

Oh ok, didn't realize he forged.

I knew he blew it atleast once, and I assumed he does it on purpose:)

Actually billet.

Never had detonation, all the tricks I did worked out well. Just overpowered the rods.

Ok guys, here is a little trick I found out while installing the spring in my car.

Instead of working blindly with pliers, jack the front of the car. Then, take a peice of string (about 4 ft long) and guide it over the wastegate's control arm (the rod in the center of the picture below).

Then, go under the car, attach one of the spring's curved end to the string and pull on the string to guide it up a little. Then, hold it in place. While holding, use your other hand to hook the free end of the spring to the wastegate connector (blue circle on the picture of the first post). Once it is hooked up correctly, simply keep the tension on the string and get up. The rest is surprisly easy, you only have to pull the string and hook the end of the spring to the actuator's shield. Then you only have to cut the string if you can't pull it free from the hook.

It's really easier than with pliers!!!(cool)

I did it very similarly, but I used a coat hanger bent straight and hooked to the spring, threaded it through, got underneath and hooked it then just pulled it back through up top, pretty easy.

I tried the more than one spring thing, I still only gained the same 2psi. I had 3 springs on it at one time.

If anyone did this without "Boost" on the A-Pillar, it could kill the motor.
OK, people should use boost gauges. Just like any other method of controlling boost...what's your point? Where the hell did someone say they weren't using a boost gauge?

I have a boost gauge, but it is not on the a-pillar, it is on the steering wheel pod. Ohnoes, will my car asplode?

By not putting it on the A piller, people won't realize you have a boost guage.

This will make your car lose 10 HP. Additionally if you don't put the NOS sticker on both sides of the car, it will lose about 15 HP. (thumb)

Lastly, you should have atleast 3 guages in the A-piller. One boost, then a clock, and finally a battery guage! (headbang)

LMAO!!!

what about the light show gauge?

I did this last week for a few hours, the car felt alot faster. however after some hard acceleration i noticed a sulphur-like smell , it was pretty bad. Anyone know what this could be?? kinda scared me so i took the spring off. My mods are Injen CAI, CustomMSPs SMIC, Vibrant S-pipe back exhaust.
