How stable are jack stands?

Now that it's been exactly a year... I've done what I could... got my revenge.
Things have settled down.

The pinchwelds on the outer parts of underneath is where I found thebest place to put the car has been. It is where the manual has the emergency jack going. I have the POS s*** Crapsman $50 jack and stands, and they work fine, but I would go woth something heavier duty if doing it all over.

I read that in the manual as well, but couldn't see a safe way to set the pinch weld on the stand without crushing the side faring. I'll have to look again next time I need to jack up the car...
