How safe is the MSP?

Well...
Looks like my time is coming. Im pretty close to owning a MSP but I have one more hump to clear before the parents will give me the final go. After almost a year and a half of me bitching my parents are finally letting me get a car, and my number one pick would be... the MSP. Sure, they have some quirks but I can deal with that, what my parents want to know is if the car is safe. I know its safe because im sure some certain members would not be here today *cough*Dr. Sound*cough* but yeah... Some key safty features would be nice. I know that side airbags were available on the P5, but the MSP does not have them, correct? Any help would be greatly appreciated... I got my eyes on a titanium gray msp(sssh) Thanks guys.

It does not have side bags you are right, some people have been in some pretty serious accidents and so far I have not seen anyone that did not walk away

Honestly I dont think the MSP is any more or any less safe than the vast majority of cars. With the way cars are designed these days it has to be a pretty serious accident before you get serious injuries. They collapse like pop cans, not like the good old days when you could run into a tree and fix the dent in your bumper, lol.

Sorry man no side air bags. Just tell your parents that the safest part of any car is the driver. That is unless you have a bad history with wrecking cars.

I was T-boned Wednesday in my MSP. I was going around 40 when I was hit on the driver's side, exactly where I sit in relation to the door and I'm fine except for a torn back muscle(from bracing myself). The triple-H frame in the Proteges is great and VERY rigid. My sister drives a 02 DX and I think its much safer than a Civic or Neon.

My 02 rental Neon's seat frame pokes my back, right where the pain is.

The brakes and frame make the car VERY safe!

Thanks, and no I dont have a history of wrecking cars... at least not yet and I hope not ever. So there really arent any special safty features? Just the basic abs and airbags? Well... tripple H frame... hmm my mom will like the sound of that. (lol2) Now if I can get her to undertand that "turbo" does not mean 200mph speeds and Ferrari performance.(dunno)

i have a history of wrecking this car haha...and well, one time i hit a stop sign going like 65 and the other i hit a tree going like 50. neither time did my airbags deploy. hitting the steering wheel is a b****. then again, if the airbags had deployed, they would have indicated the speed i was going and so on.

i got in an accident where the damages were very high and i didnt have one scratch, nor did my friend who was in the passenger seat, thank God.

if safety is their concern tell them to buy you a volvo and some driving lessons.

better yet, tell them that the SRS and other safety features were designed by Volvo

I slammed my MSP into a guard rail yesterday, and I don't even have any muscle soreness. If that means anything.

As far as specific safety features? No, we don't have side airbags, but I think the frame makes up for it.

And where the turbo is concerned .. just sit your mom down and give her a long speech about how bad our hesitation can be and that because of it, the damn car won't be going that fast, anyway. AND remind her of how many more insane cars there are on the market -- she'll be happy that you don't want a Mitsubishi Evo or a Subaru STi .. or even an SRT-4 where you could happily kill yourself going 140mph and then rolling it. You could do a LOT worse than the MSP!

Besides, you should be able to get a good price deal on any remaining MSPs around .. and when it comes to parents, that's always a factor.

Just my thoughts.

(lol) on the way to the track the other week my friend and i wore little plastic football helmets (like the ones that come with the football halloween costumes) we got some mixed looks.

The handling of this car has kept me out of at least 5 accidents in the past 6 months.... 'nuf said.

I totalled my MSP on Jan. 2nd by flipping it (just my idiotic driving) and trust me, the MSP can hold up in a crash. After my car flipped and rolled back on to 4 wheels, the top was barely dented and none of the 4 windows broke. the only window that broke was the rear window. The frame of the car held up very well. So, in my opinion, the MSP is definietly a safe car..........just my 2 cents...
