How often do you reach 4000rpm and beyond?

all the time.....driving to work this morning i shifted at 2500 and it was no fun. can be done though with okay accel but power is in the upper end of this engine. the fun begins at 4000 RPM's......
Yeppers, X2.

Question should be, how often do Ishift BELOW 4k....which for those who know me prolly happens barely ever....

i thought the thing was that you had to keep it as close to redline as possible ?

that's wut i do ... the clutch doesnt like it though, especially now with the cold

hehe

I try to keep it around 3K but fail miserably, doesn't help that my old ZX3 only had a 5300rpm redline...my P5 gives me about an extra 1500 rpms and I use every one. I don't even want to talk about when I am the first car at a stop light...I notice that I have the grinding thing between the 1-2 shift going more than 5Krpms though.

yea i think that's common to all the proteges. i have that grinding noise too

my car keeps gaining power all the way till 7000rpm since i took care of my downpipe so i use every rpm i can get. we're also looking at raising the rev limitter once i get better internals and other engine parts

not as often since i have got my new engine...maybe every once in a while i will have a sudden urge to get up and go.
:)

I've been shifting between redline and fuel cut-off. I really need to stop that, gotta make this car last... but it's so much fun. (burnout)

depending on my mood and the situation, I usually shift somewhere between 3500 and 6800

nice.....any problems with hitting fuel cut-off too many times down in the long run....???

Dude, I rev the car past 4000rpm all the time. Like almost every single time I come to a light... The car is just weak below 3000... I redline about 3 times a week? I'm sure the engine will outlast the rest of the car, I'm more worried about the tranny.

i guess something could go bad if you over-rev the engine, especially when you're boosted .... but that's what the rev limiter is there for

My usual shift point is about 4300-4600, but I rarely take it past 5500. Mainly because there doesn't seem to be any power increase.

No more than 4k around town for two reasons:

1) Gas is to expensive
2) I want to keep my baby in good running order

On the occasion I happen upon a moron driver, I'll wind it out a bit more. I've realized however that there is simply to much commotion at high revs and no speed to match. So to keep from looking like a fool around other motorists, I drive like an old fart.

EVerytime!!! Everytime i shift i am above 4k. Even when i cruise i stay over 4k (in 5th gear)!!! its best for the car.
