How much whp will boltons get you?

Possible to get the 2.0 making 175 whp?
If by bolt-ons you are referring to intake/header/exhaust, underdrive pulley, spark plug wires, etc. then you're looking at around 110 whp max. with the right choice in parts, but that's about as far as you will go. With an MP3 ECU you might even get as far as 120 whp but even that's pushing it. If you want anything higher than that I highly suggest looking into some sort of engine management as well as headwork, porting the intake manifold, and the sort of thing. If you're trying to stay naturally aspirated, 175 hp is probably out of your range. IIRC, there has been only one person to reach that mark and he has done a major amount of custom work (not cheap, not easy).

Now if you consider a turbo kit a bolt on, then you can go pretty much as high as the amount of money you want to spend. It's pretty easy to achive 175 whp with a small turbo kit on low boost (MSP kit + bolt-ons, for example).

I hope this has answered some of your questions.

possible, but u'll need more than just bolt ons,, it might be cheaper to go turbo (like the MAM budget kit)
but i myself am goin NA route

u will need a lot to get u close to that goal
Intake/Header/Exhaust (catless - best)
LW pulley
Cam gears
Custom Intake&Exhaust Cams
Pistons & Rods
Intake Mani (from Ken)
Ignition wires
Microtech or AEM EMS
polished exhaust ports
Eibach spring kit
might also look into valves
lots of dyno tunning
...sure there's more......

Installshield 2 (first) achieved a whoping 197WHP NA, but with whole lot of work

peace

Amount of money you put into the car trying to make it fast doesn't justify the horsepower you get out of it. Build a show car ;)

4 grand in engine mods got me what is in my sig. about to drop another 3K for even more! gt28rs, nology spark plug wires, MAF relocation, and replacing the greddy SP2 catback with the 3" GHL turbo back exhaust!

for a non turbo...
10K for 150+ more whp isn't bad

Each to their own!
Go mods > show mods (4 me)

im right behind u on that one !
sure look good to be low and slow , with all the stickers on ur window and mags and lights ... but when u get pass by a geo metro ... i would kick my ass for building a no go car

i went fool crazy on both show and go mods, was it worth it, to me...every penny! it was more of a hobby and a way to meet others with simlar interests.....but what has satisfied me may not satisfy another so in the end it's personal preference! do what makes you happy!

agreed! There is nothing better to me then pulling up to the tree, getting set, wating for the green and then PUNCHING it. Then as you and your opponent speed down the track side by side foot by foot gear by gear to the 1/4 mile mark to see who wins, THERE is nothing like it! especially when you win. I have been lucky. Every car i have gone up against i have beat! 5-0 baby. been lucky to get paired with slower cars i guess!

But, i tell you. it is a great rush!

I'm sure there have been lots of relevant N/A threads to cross reference here.
I could sure appreciate some pointed debate and guidance when it comes to mods.
I too eventually hope to go FI, but for now..budget mods are best.

I agree but the turbo guys have plenty of their own fun tech to discuss in other threads..

So we got I/H/E
Are pulleys considered drivetrain?
Cams / gears is valvetrain right?
IM is part of I/H/E
Plugs and wires is electrical and Engine mgmt too
some P & P, head work, valves springs.
block work?, new internals?

I have a CAI, plugs wires, new & extra ground wires, OBX header, hi flo cat mid pipe, Ractive exhaust
My custom cams will arrive soon (yay) and I need to install (and tune) my MPI. I'm thinkin about a pulley next and then fuel system.
I am also shopping for a used head to have machined.

This is stuff yet to be installed:
626 mani (still porting), thermal spacers for TB and IM, Oil catch, coolant overflow, fans, hoses

You wont need the fuel managment. Our cars run rich enough.

.....you can get more than 110 whp with boltons

This past Saturday I went to the dyno and dyno'ed at 110.27whp and 115 lbs torque (here's a link if you don't believe me ( http://www.mazdas247.com/forum/showthread.php?t=123651572 )and all I have is a Injen CAI, J-spec intake camshaft, Custom 2.75'' B-pipe + 2.5'' JiC catback Exhaust (no 2nd cat). I've seen proteges with my mods + header and underdrive pulley -(minus) the j-spec intake camshaft, pull 114-117whp.

But you're on the correct note though, it will take ALOT more money if to get to 175whp if you're doing it N/A way, rather than getting Forced Induction.

Save the spark plug wire upgrades for dead last - stock is plenty good.
true to that Karl. The only reason I have magnecor wires is because I bought them a while ago (2 some years ago) and then switched back to stock wires....and then 5 months ago one of my stock plug wires ripped (the wire split at the metal connection) so I threw them out and now use magnecor ones.

i've heard the 626 mani will make us n/a cars lose low-end torque...is this true?
yes thats true, because its a single-runner manifold which eliminates ViCS, therefore drastically reduces low end torque on N/A Proteges.....it even loses low end torque on low boost Proteges.

Always go before show. You gotta be able to backup what your car is saying!

Sorry. Not helpful but had to say it anyways :)

I wonder how much WHP ive gotten to so far with all my bolt-ons?

-AEM short ram intake
-K&N high flow air filter
-OBX axle-back exhaust
-OBX stainless 4-1 header
-SLS Performance front motor mount
-Unorthodox Racing UDP

Any ideas for whats next?
