How much oil drains out?

Hi all.

When you are doing an oil change, do you guys get the entire 5.2 quarts drained out from the drain plug and filter? How much do you get / refill?

I find that I am getting out and refilling 5 quarts only.

Thanks,

that sounds about right, there are a bunch of oil galleys where the oil can hide so .2Q's doesnt sound like much

do you warm up your engine before changing the oil?

How long do you let it drain? I try to leave it for 30 - 60 minutes. Putting the front tires on boards or something will speed up the draining. I get the full amount out. (5qts)

I let it drain about 10 minutes. At that point there is not a whole lot draining. 5 quarts is about what I get.

Yes. I usually drive the car about 15 minutes or so before changing the oil.

Ok. Just finished changing my oil. Thanks for everyone's feedback.

Based on my various reads, I tried a Motorcraft FL400S filter and Motorcraft 5W20 Synthetic Blend this time.

I bought a 5 Qt Jug and a 1 Qt bottle. Ended up using only the jug and the dipstick read about 80% full. I figured there was no need to fill it to the upper mark on the dipstick by using the 1Qt bottle. Each time I change my oil, I always wonder if it makes a difference operating at the 80% reading or if you are better off filling to the upper dipstick marker.

5 Qts after about 10-15 mins. I did the 5 Qt Jug and 1 Qt bottle and ended up using the Jug only. Checked it after 2 weeks and level was still good. I did the Penzoil Platinum which had a $15 rebate so that Jug was only $4.99. I just need to stock up when there is another rebate.

Good deal. I wish that there had been some rebate deal on my oil. Buying the 1 Qt for about $3.50, I remembered there was a time when I used to buy Mobil-1 in the 1990's at that price for my old Maxima.
