How much horsepower?

How much for your bike? And what is it again?

Not trying to create a perpetual energy source. My problem is this. I'm researching building an enclosed 3 wheeler (2f1b) whose powerplant/driveline is a motorcycle. The alternator for the motorcycle is not belt driven, it's geardriven off the crank or idle shaft in the tranny(depending on manufacturer) and doesn't produce the voltage and amps to power some of the accessories I feel are needed for this project. They don't make larger amperage alternators for the bike I have. So was thinking to use the alternator on the bike to drive just an electric motor which could then drive a higher capacity automotive alternator. So gas engine runs small alternator, small alternator powers electric motor which powers larger alternator giving me the power to run bike electronics, ignition and the accessories like 12 volt a/c system, radio, backup motor, etc. btw this is not what refered to as perpetual energy source. Perpetual energy source is after an initial input of energy the device is self sustaining, what I'm talking about requires constant energy input from the gas engine, I'm just trying to ramp up the amount of electrical energy so I can run more stuff.

But debate on this, I believe is basically going to be mute. Rather than spend lots of money trying to make what I have work, I'm probably going to sell the bike I have and use the money to buy a used goldwing which, it is possible to attach a pully system to run a/c compressor and automotive alternator, plus the 90 and newer models had built in electic reverse (atleast that's what the honda guys said at the cycleshop).

So thanks guys for your help. But figure not much point in reinventing the wheel when there is already something out there that'll do the job. Just didn't want to go through the hassle of selling my bike and buying different one.

It's a 2003 Honda matte black 919. Low miles, never dropped, but has sat for about 6 months with stabil, so need to get it serviced and have the fuel system cleaned out. Don't know how much yet. need to look it up.

Ah... That kinda sucks. I probably woulda bought it for sure a month ago (before I spent a buncha money on other things I don`t need). Give me a price anyway.

I understood what you were trying to do, I was just injecting some (albiet dry) humor. =) At any rate, you'd do better to step up the output by using a step-up transformer, of sorts, but even that would prove to add a lot of weight, heat, and so on. You're probably best off going with the monsterous engine in the Goldwing.

Go to a Harley site and find out charging specs far a fully dressed machine w/ driving lights, radio and all that junk. Might give you a good baseline. What other things are you going to run: Brake, tail and headlight(s) I assume. What else? LEDs are your friend.

Headlights, taillights, turnsignals, backup lights, reverse motor, 12volt a/c system, horn, kliktronic electric shifter, interior lights, ignition, fuel pump and injectors if running a fuelinjected bike, possibly remote door latches (not necessary but makes the car look nicer with shaved handles)

Oh, LED's everywhere will be very helpful for you. Reduce the draw quite a bit. I'm making an electric bike, and all the LED's draw less than 1/10'th of the bulbs I used, by comparison.

Man, can`t you guys just be happy with your car? Gotta get all fancy and make the rest of us seem stupid and talentless and build your own little neato deal.

buy a new bike! one that works!
Can't afford a $18,000 new goldwing. But can get like a 95 or older for 4500 or less. Most goldwings are pretty well maintained. And since the Honda dealer I tend to go to maintains the SAPD bikes, I know for a fact the local cop bikes are really well maintained.

Hes makin that 3-wheeled car thing though. I think he just wants the workings out of the Goldwing. He has a crotch rocket right now. Hell yeah they are sweet. I like some Harleys more, but they are EXPENSIVE.

crotch- rockets r better

yea if i was older ...like waay older i would have a cruiser type bike instead. im sure leaning down on a crotch-rocket wouldnt be too comfortable @ that age.

A bad lookin` Harley at any age is coo though... C`mon, Harley... Cooler than a penguins balls.

I like some cruisers, use to have a 92 Vulcan 1500A. Don't care for Harley's though. Over priced 60 year old technology. As for Crotch rockets, I don't exactly own one, I have a sportstourer 2000 Triump Sprint ST, that's in the process of being turbo'd. And a 2003 Honda 919 which is a standard or naked bike (ie no fairing). Dont' really want a crotch rocket for this project, as I'm going to have larger electrical needs then most crotch rockets are able to supply.
