How much does it cost to replace brake pads?

How much does it typically cost at dealership or a shop? I'm wondering whether it's worth the effort to do it myself or just get it done.

it's worth the effort I've seen quotes as high as $400 + parts.

i was quoted $147 at the local dealership for parts and labor on the rear the other day when i was there getting my oil changed...(living in an apartment sucks....shameful having to resort to paying someone else to change my oil )

Woo, got quoted $240 for just the fronts. The dealer wanted $107 to buy just the front pads without labor though. I hope the ones I got from Canadian Tire for $35 are up to the job.
