Well i've been feeling the pressure quite a bit recently and thinking about saving some cash for a rock. So how much did you guys spent on an engagement ring? Where's the best place to buy one? and a nice place to do research on? TIA

My first one I bought when I was 19 and I spent 3500.00 on it at Kays. That was in 89 and back then that was a lot of money. That lasted 5yrs.

The second one I spent 200.00 on a set of bands and told her if we last 5 yrs I'd get her what ever she wanted. Good thing for me it only lasted 4 and a half yrs! I just save a bunch of money. (headbang)

the 3rd date I went on with my then girlfriend. we went to the mall to see a movie, I was looking for a new watch and she was over looking at engagement rings just because she was bored. I walked over and asked her which one she liked kind of jokingly and she pointed one out for like $650... Remember I had just turned 16, and she was 15... I went back the next day and bought it. Just before graduating college, I pulled the ring out of the safety box I was keeping it in and proposed... I bought her a replacement ring worth $5800 for our 10th but she rarely wears it. The sentimental value of that 1st ring is worth way more than the replacement. We are celebrating our 15th wedding anniversary on the 18th of this month.

around $7,500 last year
"he went to Jared!"
Btiches.... I hate that commercial. The wife is all hatin on her husband for getting her jewelry from somewhere other than Jareds. Hes just trying to get some ass..... give him a break lady.

Oh here I found some pics. Rock itself is ~ 1 carat flawless diamond.

You must have seen that in a movie or something.... pimp.

Diamonds aren't worth dirt anyway. Better yet, get something unique like a blue diamond, or a diamond and opal cluster, etc.. After a year you don't even notice you have a ring on. But believe me, if your wife has a unique ring, she'll love having everyone keep commenting on what a beatiful ring she has, even years later.

I spent about $400 at Sears, because it was fully refundable. Then after she said yes, I took it back and then we went shopping for the real ring (happened to be a sale on at Zales). She also traded in her previous wedding ring (for about 40% of it's original value, the bastards!) so out of pocket about another $1800 I think for a decent diamond. Then for the wedding she got a gold band on both sides of that ring fitted with amethyst stones to surround the diamond. One of a kind, looks nice, and after all it's just a symbol. Spent most of the money on the wedding and honeymoon. If your woman has a fit about the rock size or how little it cost, dump her immediately- her issue is with image and she's looking to marry your wallet instead of you.

my girl doesn't want a ring........She wants a freakin Vespa. She doen't know yet that i'mma break up with her.

$8k on a freaking rock?! geez. people spend way too much money on that stuff. I'd rather spend that money on home/home improvement. Somewhere where the money can actually be useful. A piece of stone on a ring is worthless in the long run. if you truely love her, she'll know...

my girl was too close to wanting a ring and reading bridal magazines and such, so she had to go.

I will say it hurt.... I could have a sweet car right now, or come up with the DP on a house easier, or so many other things. But I do like it when people look at the ring and are like "daaaaaaaaaaaamn girl". Then they look at me and I'm all like "kiss the rings b****".

Damn looks like im screwed... i love my car more than her. I can't sell my baby for her. I'm 25 and i can't see myself spending a few Gs on the stupid rock. I guess i'll wait.

If your only 25, statistics says that you have 1 in 3 chance in divorce. No need to spring for a expensive ring.
My friend was with a girl 7years and they got married and in 6months she cheated.

my aunts ring is over 4 freaking carats.

fortunately my wife didnt want

1) a ring that has the diamond sticking out for either the engaement or wedding band
2) a ring that was over 2-3mmwide

that made the selection a crap load cheaper. she got a channel set platinum band with over 1 carat for 1200 bucks...BUT, i should have spent 3k. i bought it on ebay from a jeweller from the diamond district with 100% pos feedback and got great service.

he gives you the apprasial which was 3k, but of course being that it was from HIM i didnt trust it i went to a local jeweler who confirmed that was a good appraisal give or take a hundred bucks, plus i didnt pay tax.

the markup on jewelry is so ridiculous which is why you should look online at a place like ebay. this guys name is mr.jewel or something and he was friggin excellant.

"He went to Ebay!!"
now that would be a funny commercial

I talked to my ex girlfriend (1st HS love, 1st lay, 1st long relationship, etc) a while ago and she said that her boyfriend was saving money for the ring and then they would get engaged.
How much money were they saving for the ring?

$20K!!!!

Good thing I got out of THAT boat a long time ago.

[sarcasm]glad you get to impress people with a stoneon your finger, instead of putting a roof over your head...[/sarcasm]

I don't know. maybe my views are a little jaded because the b**** I was gonna marry turned out to be a, well a b****... Got the ring back, and sold it cheap on eBay. So I saw it as lost money. And even then, I really didn't pay that much for it to begin with. Just a couple thousand that I paid off monthly (Zales, 1 year no-intrest..)
