How much could i get??

That's the value to a dealer. There's no way I would sell a car less than 1-1/2 years old, with 20k miles for that range. No ******* way the value should drop almost 50%. I'd sell it privately.

that would be the best way to get the most money for your car. I would just keep it and rebuild the drivetrain to produce and handle the most HP it can create and enjoy driving it!!!

hey i've been looking to buy an msp for a while. what is the lowest you would sell it to another forum member for? my wife and i are trying to get out of a saturn vue, which has also suffered tremendous depreciation, at least from a trade-in value perspective.i've had an ad in the paper for the last 3 weeks and only 1 call with no follow-up :(

post some pics...

Screw the dealers and their valuation methods! A clean, limited production, low mileage car will always command a premium. If the car was a lemon or had other major problems, that would not be the case. The fact that your car is unmodified is another good selling point.

U will have a hard time selling your car privatly. I have seen the same MSPs on autotrader for months. Most of them have an asking price of over 16k. I think u could sell your car in a short amount of time for about 14k. I have talked to a few sellers and they have not been getting many calls. I have been looking into selling my car but I dont want to lose a whole lot of money and Iam not in a rush to sell. I will just wait untill my payoff is like 13k and then sell it.

That's the thing, though. Some of these guides (NADA, KBB) list the value according to what the market will bear. In this case, the value of an MSP based on resale/trade-in is what the other guys said. I understand it's kinda crappy, but if the demand isn't out there for a $15K used MSP, then the dealers will have to lower their price to sell it. Just because they may advertise it for $17 - 19K doesn't mean they will get anywhere near that.

You may recall that towards the end of the run of MSPs, people were getting them for $15.5K + ttl out the door. Not to mention that the Protege is at the end of of it's life cycle in 2003. Once the Mazda 3 came out, the value of the Protege dropped even more.

As a point of reference on trade-in values, I traded in a 2002 Honda Accord in Oct 2003 to get my MSP. The car was 1.5 years old with 14K miles. I bought my Accord coupe EX v6 fully loaded for $27K + ttl. I was offered $15K as a trade-in, but I eventually got them up to $17.5K. The 2002 model year was the last for the 6th gen Accords and there was a glut of them in the market. People were advertising them for anywhere from 15K to 20K because the 2003 models had just come out and people were trading in their older models to get the new body style.

It sucks.... but that's the way of the car world.

Ben
Yes, I miss that car....

I i were to sell my msp right now, how much do u all think i could get?? Its an 03 w/9328 miles. bone stock.

I am in a rush right now, so I didn't get to read all the replies...

My neighbor is trying to sell his, because he wants a pick up truck?!?

Anyways, he took it to CarMaxx in MD and they would only give him $11,000 (Protege ES) price. They couldn't find the MSP in their books.

He is not having any better luck with private sales either. Most people think it is "just a protege" and don't understand what it has. After all, it's not like CNN came out with a story on a car that was only built 2700 times.

i understand everyone saying "it's limited production"...but it's also a mazda...not a porche.

the black book values are based on what the cars are selling for at major auctions in the region...they're not made-up numbers by the dealers.

to get what he will need, he will have to sell it to a private buyer and not a dealer...

dealers will only give you what they can make at that the auction...
