How much upgraded HP and torque can the MS3 chassis handle before it starts to crack and tear?

Ummm.. i'm sure the motor would blow WELL before the chassis started to tear itself apart...

I was told by a trusted friend that works in the mechanics department of a BMW dealer not to put over 50hp more than it comes with on it because the frame will start to crack.

Is there any info about the transmission and gear teeth? Is this a new tranny or has it been used in other models?

Eh, so we are gonna have to upgrade the WHOLE frame when we wanna put on a bigger turbo?

Thats the craziest thing i've ever heard. I could see seam welding the frame like they do on WRC Rally cars but those things are going thru tremendous stress.

I would definately hope so... It wouldn't be any point to upgrading much of anything cause it probly won't take a whole hell of alot to get 50 hp out of the things when the aftermarket industry finally gets products coming out.

chances nothing, simple fact is he is smoking dope. not even on a yugo cv would 50hp cause the welds on the unibody to crack. we've got 400hp protege5s that have not twisted the unibody or broken a chassis weld. its not like a 1000hp drag car where you have a full frame bending from drive shaft torque going front to rear.

Yeah, without gigantic sticky tires and huge hp, I gotta think the traction would be lost well before that kind of power would be transferred. Changes in road surface would seem to be exerting way more force on the car body than the force from the wheels before traction is lost. It's making think about my approach to speed bumps and driveways with an sharp rise off the road. Maybe taking them at an angle isn't such a good idea.(shocked)

I can't imagine more horsepower in the lower gears on my M3. I have the 2.3 engine and in both first and second gears the suspension is not up to the power of the 2.3. I have had terrible front wheel drive wheel hop out of the right side wheel. Poorly engineered I suppose. My previous front wheel drive cars were three Mitsus and two Mopars and none of them had the problem with wheel hop like my Mazda does.

does the m3 have a limited slip. probably not. if it did you wouldnt spin that tire as much it would be shared between the two front wheels and you would not spin as much.
