How Many People . . .

sry its time for a thread jack, but i want to eleberate on my your a tool comment. im all about pushing your car and driving fast , but at 100+ very few people have the experiance or reaction speed to control a vehicle in an emergency situation (s*** i dont). and driving that fast on a daily basis is retarded. you have to relize at that speed a blow out is pretty bad. and being in so cal (where i lived for 3 years) theres not much empty highway.just saying its not worth killing a family of 4.

KEEP IT ON THE TRACK

not to be post and get flame but one time i was going 130.. hit fuel cut.. but yet no virbration at all... on the other hand, my old 99 LX protege shakes upon 90+ mph...

please ask them why your tranny shakes at 100MPH+ please !!! i'm hoping that this isn't a problem for all proteges

ooh wow i just noticed post #1000..i'm a fackin' postwhore

So if I drive my MSP 120 MPH down the highway and the hood flies off and tears the car to hell, the dealership should pay for a faulty hood latch? bulls***. Drive the speed limit. A mazdaspeed protege isn't intended to be driven past the speed limit in all honesty. It doesn't have a racing transmission, racing tires, racing seats, racing anything. It's a souped-up grocery getter. Live with it.

I love my mazdaspeed but damn it people. It's a faster PROTEGE. Don't b****. You're getting more performance than you deserve and more than you paid for. I realize I have a 4-door car with moderate horsepower. You should too. If you drive that fast everyday (which I highly doubt you actually do), buy a god-damn sports car. When you wrap it around a telephone pole I won't shed a tear. If you really want to get rid of your car so bad give it to goodwill's wheels for work program and write it off on your taxes. They'll find someone who's actually grateful just to have a car to drive and won't complain it doesn't break the sound barrier.

nmaino...maybe your car is trying to tell you something. Maybe like, "Hey asshole, quit trashing me everyday! Just sell me before my heart explodes at 40,000 miles!"

All he does is cry about his car when he comes in here anyway, and then he asks for help from the very people whose car he's trashing. Hey don't get all butt hurt, but why don't you just GROW UP. I'm not going to lecture you on your driving habits, but we should not have to suffer your comments because YOU BOUGHT THE WRONG CAR. Sell your car to somebody who appreciates it, and go buy a freakin camaro you tool.

Never been 100 in my car. I've had snows on my car since the day I bought it, they're only rated to 100, so I keep it under.

If you're doing 100 a lot, you probably do have the wrong car. VW's are very comfortable at speed, my GTI VR6 was very stable and fast at higher speeds. It didn't handle nearly as well as the MSP in tight corners, but it was a lot quieter and more composed on the highway and didn't strain to go fast with the 6 speed like the MSP does with the 5sp.

Still, woudn't trade back. The MSP is better at everything else, with this one exception and I hardly ever drive fast like that.

Oh yeah, by the way, change your avatar...you might scare some of the females away with your Jurassic Park picture..

its your air/fuel mixture, its kind of like a stumble right? a quick jolt? and your traveling at partial throttle?....stupid engine management this car has.

do you have an egt or wideband?

obviously not you would of seen this...but thats what i think cause i get the same feeling though i see what the mixture is.

My car feels very solid at 100, but then again I don't do it every day or take it to 140.

He didnt ask you people why he drives 100mph. So wtf.
He asked why his car stumbles at that speed. Who the **** are you people to lecture him on how he drives. Who cares if he does 160mph everywhere he goes that's his business. Let the police do their jobs.
If you cannot offer a legitamate suggestion for him like DiscreetSpeed did regarding his engine/tranny, not his driving habbits, then STFU.

It's not just the police's job to to teach civic responsibility. That's everyone's responsibility... we should tell people when they are doing stuff that could be deadly to both themselves and to some innocent person. Grandma's and soccer moms have no idea how to react when a "situation" occurs and they pull out in front of a 100 mph car. Most people use the road for transportation, which it was designed for, not as a race track. That is the reason there ARE race tracks -- so you can drive at 100 mph. Most of us have been at enough autocrosses to see that everyone who thinks they can drive fast, can't.

I'm not the only one who thinks civic responsibility is important:
a husband was just convicted of 1st degree murder of his child, despite the fact that he did not touch the child, but knew what the wife was doing and didn't do anything about it. We do have a responsibility to others...

Are you kidding? When people drive like idiots, it becomes everyones business. How many people would die if we all thought like this..."Who cares if he does 160mph everywhere he goes that's his business." Not calling the kettle black or anything, but I see too many people in SoCal drive past their abilities and too fast for certain conditions. Have fun, but drive safe. No need for loss of life or stupid accidents. Now I know why I'm always stuck on I-10...

LOL, and you don't think how he treats his car is related to the problems he's having?

My car hits 90-100MPH a few times a week, and it exhibits none of the behavior he's talking about. If it did, I'd take it to the dealer. They would probably tell him they can't test drive at that speed, but if something happens later, he has a record of the complaint.

My MSP feels very planted and stable at 100MPH. In fact, the only other car I've had that was this comfortable at triple digit speeds was a '91 Corvette. Of course, the major difference was that at 100MPH, the 'Vette was just loping along, begging me to give it more throttle.

To the people who have offered me help and answers (or jump-off points) thank you.

To the rest of you . . . if you don't have something constructive to say, please don't post. If you feel the need to post in reguards to your idea of "civic duty" or to the use of my avatar, please go the the "Off Topic" section where that kind of babble belongs.
