Ok I dunno about you, but I am not a Ford fan. I never really was and I dont' plan onto until they make somewhat of a good looking and reliable car. but anyways

I get so many people calling my car a Ford it's unreal. I know Ford owns some shares of Mazda but it just drives me nuts when people call my car a Ford...

Anyone else get this? cause i know I don't drive a ford.... but I am just curious if it's a Canadian thing... or if it goes on in the U.S also.

Thanks

Jc

people call the mp3 out of name all over the place, but i've never gotten "it's a ford..." or anything like that. so, not in this part of the states at least.

I bet they are just trying to mess with you...

I was surprised to see the Focus SVT beat the Civic Si and Beetle Turbo S in a recent Edmunds comparision. Makes me think twice about the Focus.

I read that article. The svt will be limited in production... dunno if it will take off that well. I mean they don't make the contour svt anymore.... cause they didnt' sell.... it seems impressive but it's still a ford reliability is out the door...

If they are calling your car a Ford it must be out of ignorance. That's like calling a Lamborghini or Mercedes a Chrysler. Just because there is a parent company doesn't mean they are the same thing.
Tell them to f*** off and get a brain. If they knew what the hell they were talking about they would just shut up. They wish they were you for having such a sweet car. Jealousy is a b***h, and that's what they are.
JMHO :D

Ford! Hell no!

To tell you the truth, the fact that mazda has ANYTHING to do with Ford is the one reason why I never bought a mazda in the past. It almost kept me from getting the mp3 as well.

When I got interested in the mp3, the very first thing I started asking was......does it share ANYTHING with a Ford? If it did, I woudn't have gotten it.

You'll never see me buying a Mazda SUV/truck/or minivan( Like I'd buy any minivan anyhow)

NOPE...don't have that problem here...in fact..there are so few where I live...if anything they completely overlook the MAZDA badge on the back all together and just ask "what is it? its sweet!"

I live in a town of 20,000 and there is only ONE MP3 and 6 P-5's in the entire city.....maybe has something to do with the nearest mazda dealer is 50 miles away....

OH MY GOD>>>NEWF you got a problem!!! part of your car IS made by ford!! lol .... the passanger side retractor for the seat belts IS a ford part....don't worry about it...just warn your passangers..lol

Yeah I once got that too....a friend who thought he was really smart was telling me my engine was the same one as the Focus....he's no longer my friend. :D

Lamborghini was bought by VW and basically "given" to Audi to take car of. That's why the new Lambo has all-wheel drive.

I know what you mean though.

Ford owns a lor of Mazda stock. They did this to better position themselves in the Japanese market and to steal some of Mazda's engineering. Hence some of the similarities between the Focus motor and some of Ford & Mazda's other vehicles. There are a few similarities between the SVT Motor and the Protege FS. Both have the same dual stage intake manifold, both are distributorless. And if my sources are right, they both have the same head. The main thing I'd like to know is if the SVT Tranny would bolt on to our FS block. If so you'd have a very strong tranny and a 6-speed. Of course I'm thinking at the extreme end of the spectrum.

Ford owns 33% or so of Mazda. That makes Ford a controlling interest of Mazda in Japan according to the law over there.

And if the tranny does bolt up, that would be nice. Here's a deal for you, if buy the tranny I'll see if it bolts up to my car. J/K

If anything all it might need is an adapter plate. The other question is will it fit? Will the driveshafts fit into the wheel end of things or will custom shafts have to be made??

Just in case.....there is a company in California called KENNEDY ENG. they make adapters, among other things......from what I have seen, they make an adapter to bolt ANY engine to ANY tranny.....no matter how big or small. I would be surprised if they didn't make a kit to bolt any combination together.

Just something to look into if you are really serious. :D

here is their site . http://www.kennedyeng.com/ they have been doing this for over 30 years.....there isn't the combo you mentioned on their site...HOWEVER...they don't list their ENTIRE stock there either

i here that the engine in the mp3 is a ford engine. maybe that's what they are meaning when the say your car is a ford. I think that the engine in the mp3 is the same as the engine in the 2.0 ford probe as well as the engine in the 2.0 626 and mx-6.

Our engine is entirely Mazda. The headers for the mx-6 or probe do not fit onto ours, as the flange needs to be modified. So it is different. It's not the z tech engine that the Focus has either. Look at the HP and Torque curves totally different for both cars. Plus if that was true then all the aftermarket stuff for the Focus would fit onto ours... Which it doesn't.....

Ok well we are 99.9% Mazda...except the passenger seat bealt thingy... I dont' sit there so I don't care... Ha ha ha

Hehe that's exactly what my friend was trying to say.....but it isn't true. Our engines are Mazda-made. Heck in some ways it wouldn't be so bad if they weren't as it'd mean we'd at least have access to more aftermarket parts.

what about the 626 2.0, it looks the exact same and lines up the same( i know that doesn't mean it is the same). if it is the same would headers for the 626 bolt on to our engine. cuz headers from cork sport for the mp3 are around $800 when the headers for the 626 are $400 or some thing like that.
