How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

Haven't had CX-5 long, but pleased so far! 17s look a bit small, but understand the give a better ride than the 19s.

Thanks, having spent far too long trying to track down the original Yokohama G98s, I'm going with your suggestion! I found the best price I could get for these tyres was with Halfords Autocentre and have bought 2 tyres (fitted, balanced, etc) for 207. Fitting is tomorrow, hope there will be no problems.

That's a great price! I got mine from black circles and wasn't overly fussed with the scratch on one of my wheels following the tyre fitting. So I won't be going back to their fitter for the next 2 tyres.

I got them to swap rears to fronts so the new tyres went on the rear, so one scratch out of handling 4 tyres may just have been unlucky rather than the fitters being careless.

Hi - new member to this forum. Have had my car since May (ex demo registered in January), but only just found you lot. Some interesting posts in the archive I see!

How many miles did you get out the Geolanders? Did you change at 1.6mm or a bit more? Mine are at 3mm or thereabouts, I might get a tread depth measurer (once I figure out the german name for it!) to be sure. I know wet performance (especially braking) is really poor between 1.6mm and 2mm compared to 3mm so I might just change them next spring. I can't remember how my km are on the car, I don't drive it much, but it's not that many, and about 40% are on winter tyres, so I guess mine are not lasting as long as expected.

Dr Watson,

FWIW, having just had to change my 2 rear tyres I did check the wear on all tyres (Geolandar G98). The tread depth, at 11,260 miles, was 6 mm on the rear, 5 mm on the front. I think that's pretty reasonable.

Sounds about right, I have 15'500 miles on the clock so the summer tyres have 12'000 miles or less. I'm guessing I have around 3-4mm just now but need to check properly, wear looks even across each tyre and between all four tyres, sounds a bit high, but a good excuse to get something better next spring. New SUV tyres come with 8mm or a little more maybe, due to the nature of the tyre and being a 65 profile??

I measured my summer Geolanders the other day when the winter tyres went on. I reckon I have done about 10,000 of the 13,000 miles the car has covered on them. All tyres measured between 5 and 6 mm so pretty consistent with your results considering most of my motoring is done on windy lanes rather than arrow straight motorways. I reckon a couple more summers out of them. I usually change my tyres at a a little below 3mm owing to the acknowledged rapid fall off in wet weather performance below that number.

Just checked mine properly, all tyres about the same, inner two tread channels 4.1, outer about 4.9mm, looks like I'm good for another summer season next year. Still think I should have more for my mileage but it's not too bad.

Upgraded my Tom Tom successfully today but it meant using a new 8Gb SD card. All seems OK. Used a Transcend Class 10 card.

17500 on the fronts with 2-2.5 mm left.

Hi,

Just to throw a couple of queries into the ring.

Anyone find the i-stop feature doesn't work so well at this time of year? Mine rarely operates at the moment; I used to think it was linked to the blue light and would operate after the light had gone out, but not so with mine. I'm aware it won't work during regeneration, and also doesn't like the aircon on, but that's not the reason.

Secondly, anyone agree having selected the demist control the rear screen takes an age to clear? At first I thought it was inoperative, but it does clear . . . eventually. Much, much slower than my previous cars.

I find the i-stop works less often in the darker days and colder weather. Probably due to the fact you are using more accessories.... Lights, heating, heated seats etc etc.

I hadn't noticed the issue with the demisting, will check it tomorrow morning as i'm sure it'll be required then!

Geoff.

Always found i-stop to be almost inoperative in winter, poss down to battery charge levels.

The rear screen is a tad slow, but doesn't bother me, except why didn't they have an auto-turn off on this facility? The last three cars I've owned turn it off after 10 minutes.

I do find when the front windows are obscured by condensation/rain on the outside that if I open then close fails to remove the misting.

The i-stop has a very complex series of requirements listed in the manual that determine when it does or does not operate, so things like outside temperature, number of gadgets switched on using the battery etc etc will all affect it. That said I did a fairly long drive in the snow yesterday at zero degrees and it was operating every time I stopped.

Haven't noticed the rear demist taking too long I have to say, although as another poster said I agree it would be sensible if it automatically switched itself off.

Were you on the standard summer tyres?
How did you find the car handling in snow.

Is the i-stop thing worth the trouble (fuel-savings-wise I hope), considering the extra vibration, etc. I drove a Mercedes CLA250 with it and wasn't impressed, but maybe the fuel savings justifies it.....

The Istop just turns the engine off when idling, so any savings are dependant on the length of time the engines off.

There is no vibration on the diesel, I think perhaps you are thinking of the other system due to be fitted on the high powered petrol version?

Yes, Mercedes turbo 2.0L gasser, about 206 hp. I could feel the engine turning on and off, it was annoying.

Worth having. I've done around 10,000 miles since March and iStop has turned the engine off for over 5 hours. Think how much fuel you'd use on idle for 5 hours.
