How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

Just been quoted 145 all inclusive for 1st years service, so not big shocks with that.

just had 8 year service on my daihatsu 315 with mot new disks & pads. It normally comes in at around 120-150 so the mazda's around the same price as the Daihatsu and a bit cheaper than the Kia Carens it replaced. So far the running costs (just renewed the VED for 30) including insurance have been great. Perhaps not looking forward to replacing tyres as my old car had 205/16's and the Mazda's will be a bit dearer being on 17" wheels.

That seems very reasonable. Based upon your previous postings is that Newport Mazda by any chance? Bought my CX5 there but given I have another dealer only 6 miles from where I live who suggested their charge would be circa 200 when due it would almost be worth the 80 mile round trip for that kind of saving.....even including the WTWT (welcome to Wales tax aka Severn Bridge toll)

That is a very good price, I was originally quoted 210 for the 12,500 mile service but went to a different dealer and got it for 180. I have just been quoted 240 for the 25,000 mile service.

How are you getting on with getting the dash rattle sorted?

How are you getting on with getting the dash rattle sorted?

I was waiting a few days before posting. I picked it up on Wednesday and it was much better - not perfect but OK - but it was showing about 13 deg so not a true test. Got in the car this morning, showing 5 deg and guess what? it is still rattling! I must say that it is better than it was but not cured.

What does annoy me is that they have had it now for 2x2 days and on the first occasion did nothing but look at it and then this time I assumed that they were dropping the dash but they didn't, telling me that they will do so if it is not fixed.

Bastards are just trying to wear you down, take it back and make a scene, preferably in front of a potential customer.

It might also be worth while phoning Mazda customer services.

I don't get a single rattle in my car, with just over 3K miles, so it is possible to cure these irritating noises.

With mine it's obvious what is causing the rattle. When cold if you gently bump the dash with your fingertips near the speakers you generate the same rattle. It's as if the dash is to close to whatever is under it. In the warmer months everything expands tightening all the gaps up. When you said they did the two TSB's on yours did they actually take out the windscreen and put the felt under the dash. I'm guessing not. Probably B Sh!ting you.

Perusal,

sorry to disappoint It's further west than Newport. It's 22 miles and 45 mins away from Swansea. I take the day off work and visit the local market town. Its a chance to buy lots of local cheese :-)
The b roads to get to the garage are also awesome!

Hi,
On no particular topic. I've completed 3500 miles since I bought the car on 1st Sept, and no rattles! In most respects I'm very pleased with it, love the auto and the power even though it's an SEL not Sport.

But I do have a couple of gripes. I'm a bit disappointed with the ride; I find it choppy and unsettled over standard British town roads. I guess there's nothing I can do about it, and I'm at least 2 years away from having to replace the tyres for, perhaps, something softer.

The other thing is the dashboard and satnav lighting. Whatever setting I try, as the natural light fades the lighting suddenly switches from normal bright to very dark and almost unreadable (that's the satnav display). Very annoying, constantly having to fiddle with the very fiddly stalk sticking out of the instrument panel. There seems to be hardly any graduation between one extreme and the other.

Agreed, there is no "in-between"

Yes I know you can set auto dash dimming, but at poor light rather than full dark, you don't want the screen suddenly dropping to full night (dark) mode. Annoyingly there seems to be something as a middle setting just as you turn the knob back, but doesn't remain as such.

Hey ho, I still love the car.

Alex

They did not take out the windscreen for sure. I am away all week so it will be a good time to test things out but it looks like it ir going back in again.

If you select the nav screen then settings, select night button on the bottom, and you can adjust the brightness for the night mode, mine is on the max position.

Its not bright enough but its better, I also selected a different colour to the default setting, which helped a little.

regarding the ride I find it an excellent compromise on the 19" wheels, although I do try to avoid pot holes etc if I can, compared to a Audi sports suspension its soft!
Have you tried increasing the air pressure, I run my 19" with 36psi front and rear, I suppose I should think about reducing the rears now the caravan is winterised.

Keep me posted. I might remove the speaker grills my self to see if I can stuff some padding under there somehow.

xtrailman,

Thanks. I had tried reducing pressures by a couple of psi with no significant difference, but hadn't considered increasing them; I'd have thought that would make the ride worse . . . but I will give it a go.

I'd always been led to believe that the smaller wheel size gave a better ride (17" v 19")?

I'll also try your nav screen brightness settings.

That is what I thought, when I had my test drive I was trying to find potholes and rough road and have been very pleased with the ride, both then and now 6 months and 13k later, I have the pressures at 36 back and front. [as the hand book says]

I run my 17" on max pressure (full load & passengers) even though most of the time its driver & passenger with nothing in the boot. the ride is firmer and fine. the 17" tyres had 2 more inches of sidewall to absorb bumps. Does the auto add much weight onto the front of the car, which may account for the ride quality?

dad of jon,

I'll try at the max (full load) pressures. Just checked what the difference in weight between the 2WD auto and manual is - 2 kg!!

Sadly I can confirm that the 5 deg temperature brought out the rattles this morning - back it will go to the dealer.

Yes 36 is normal, I was confused with my last car the Xtrail where 34 upfront was normal, I always ran the car at 36 psi to try and reduce the wear on the outer edge's.

So I'll be pumping both front and rears up a couple of extra psi sometime this week, so 38psi.
I tow with the caravan so the pressures are up and down to suit in summer.

Its old age I'm afraid.
