How many Brits? Fancy a cuppa?

Hi everybody,
I'm a new member picking-up what tips I can about the CX-5 which I ordered at the end of November and which is now about 4 weeks form the expected delivery date.
I've read quite a bit about which boats the cars will arrive on in the UK. My dealer was adamant that they travel by boat to Zeebrugge and then will be delivered from there by car transporter.
Cheers

I know mazda's bound for scotland arrive at rosyth by ship. Zeebrugge is the distribution centre for mazda europe. so yes I reckon the dealer is sort of correct, but missing the zeebrugge to a port near you boat(trans-shipment I think they call it) I think mine did zeebrugge to portbury(avon) docks. car transporter from there.

Thanks "dad of jon". I checked with the dealer today. A different salesmen told me he "thought" they came from Zeebrugge by boat to Bristol then by car transporter within UK - precisely what you said.

I also enquired about the price of a spacesaver wheel. After much activity on the PC by the Parts Dept. I was quoted 250 + VAT for a full-size steel wheel and tyre and 350 + VAT for an alloy and tyre. They were unclear if this included a suitable polystyrene insert in which to house it.
I am concerned if a full size spare will lie above the level of the rest of the boot floor, causing the cover to rock about. I would appreciate any comments or, ideally, a photo of a spare in place.
Thanks in anticipation

Drive the Deal

Hi there - newbie here - having test driven a Sport Nav 2.2D 175 AWD Auto and SE-L Nav 2.2D 150 AWD Drive Manual, and being very impressed by both, I'm on the point of negotiating a deal. If money were no object I'd go for the Sport Nav 2.2D 175 AWD Auto, but as I have a budget limit, and want an auto, I think I'm going to plump for the SE-L Nav 2.2D 150 2WD Auto. I was hoping to dest drive one before ordering, but a few calls and visits to dealers suggest that this is a very rare combination. Has anybody else out there got that combination ? Don't worry I won't ask for a test drive! I'm just looking for opinions on the combintation.
As for price, dealers don't seem very keeen to discount, even though I'm a cash buyer with no trade in. I read with interest Narrowguage7.25's drivethedeal price, so that looks like a good way to go. A question though, having looked at the drivethedeal website, I'm still unsure how they make their money - are there any comission fees to pay ? And has anybody who has used them just submitted their order via their web page, or dealt with them over the phone (I've reached an answerphone when I've tried to call)?

Thanks

I can only relate the experience I had with Drive the Deal; which was very professional and accommodating, likewise their Dealer ( can't say who because of confidentiality agreement and they may use more than one dealer). Dealer was excellent with me over the phone and - in my case on collection in person. All I have to do now is build a service relationship with my local Mazda agent (Perrys), they could have had my order but didn't play ball on the pricing so lost out. Either way you will be getting a good vehicle(shady)

Thanks Applauso, that is what I was looking for. I am going to order one at the weekend where the dealer quoted 250 +VAT

Just So you are aware, Applauso has a Spacesaver Steel wheel, The foam shape fittings are available as separate order items for arond 80 ish

And the space saver can not be used for towing.
Full sized wheels are available as an accessory.

Thanks for the last 2 comments.
Can somebody please advise the cost of a spacesaver with tyre and the foam and where to get one - I have had no joy on the internet.
Thanks

Has anyybody noticed a better mpg, possibly with the milder weather, did a mixed city/rural ride today and the mpg has gone up from 35 to 43?

I had noticed my mpg took a dive with the cold weather started. Dipped from about 44 to 38.

Tyres

Anticipating the time I'll need to replace tyres on my CX5 I've been looking up prices and see that there are Toyo Proxes R36 225/55/R19's as well as considerably cheaper R36A same size/spec. Anyone any idea what the difference is between the R36 and R36A?

You need to make sure the speed and load rates are the same.

Same speed and load rates
etyres Toyo R36 225/55R19 99V 282.50, ctyres Toyo R36A 4x4 Mazda 99V 225/55/19 171.88 both fully fitted
Both eye watering prices but R36A will be 442 cheaper to replace all 4 tyres so I like that option

Tyredrive.co.uk sells both tyres R36A 135.87ea and R36 193.08.

Compared to the prices above seems like a lot gets added on for fitting, balancing, valve and disposal!

Toyo UK site lists the R36 as OEM for the CX5 but I can't find R36A on the site

Roof Boxes

Anyone fitted roof bars and a roof box to the CX-5? - interested to hear your experiences and recommendations. Planning go go to Scotland and with people and dogs I need some more space for luggage..

Yes, I took mine in after 3000 miles and they just took some oil out, assuring me that there is no such problem. Now up to 5500 miles and it is heading North again!

Thanks for that- Since my post a few weeks ago, I located a demo SE-L Nav 2.2D 150 2WD Auto at a local(ish) dealers, drove it and liked it. After the the test drive we started talking numbers and the dealer came closer to the DTD price than I thought they would, so I placed an order on the day. I've also ordered some dealer fit extras, including a spare wheel and foam, though I have my doubts about that turning up (in which case I won't be paying for it). Maybe I should have walked and done a little more haggling, maybe I could have got them to match the DTD price, but all in all I'm happy that I've got what I think to be a very good car on order with delivery at the end of May.

Just a quick update about my experience of the rising oil issue. I'd booked the CX-5 back into the dealers for them to look at it (second time) but before that I used the "contact customer services" section of the Mazda UK to express my concerns.

Mazda CS rang me the next day, and agreed that the issue needed to be looked at and opened a support case (I asked for the case number to quote to the dealer). They also told me that there was a technical bulletin detailing an ECU update to resolve the issue.

When the car went into the dealer, I told them of the contact with Mazda and gave them the case number, asking them to contact Mazda with the outcome of their investigations (Mazda hadn't told me to ask the dealer to do that, but I thought I'd push them). I was particularly looking for the oil and filter to be changed, as well as the ECU update.

After a couple of hours, the dealer rang to say that they had applied the ECU update as per the technical bulletin, but would only change the oil if either Mazda or I agreed to cover the cost. I made several calls to Mazda customer services that day in an effort to get the authorisation for the oil change, but wasn't allowed to speak to the case manager. By 4pm, with us needing to collect the car, I told the dealer to change the oil and filter and that I would pay for it and invoice Mazda UK.

After all that, the dealer rang back to say they didn't have a filter in stock. Not impressed, as they knew well in advance why the car was being looked at.

To cut a long story short(ish), Mazda UK rang the next day to say that they would stand the cost of the oil and filter change. So the end result was an ECU update and oil/filter change. I'll keep an eye on it to see if the problem goes away, but it's due a service in around 2.5K so it'll get another oil change then.

My advice to anyone with the issue is get in touch with Mazda UK first, and get everything agreed before it goes into the dealer. And if your dealer is as useless as mine (I'll be going elsewhere for servicing) make sure they are fully aware of why the vehicle is coming in, what will need doing and that Mazda UK are involved.

Still love the car, hope this is the end of the oil issues.
