How long do you let your Speed 3 warm up?

I actually subscribe to the VW old-school philosophy, which says you should warm it up for as long as it takes to roll a smoke. I quit smoking, thank god, so that is about as long as it takes to find a decent song or shut the garage door (for those lucky enough to have them)

there's a reason why driving it lightly for a few miles is the best way to warm up a car:

trannies don't warm themselves up by being parked! ;o

My car doesnt even get warmed up, I start it, pull out of the garage, wait for garage to shut and drive 6 miles to work.

over time that could actually be a rough on the car. heating up then cooling right off rapidly will induce higher thermal stresses but i'm talking. I mean over long long term. so short drives day in and day out it may be worth letting it warm up a little longer imo.

back on topic... i let mine warm up until the temp gauge moves unless its really cold.

i dunno about you guys but my car talks to me theres a trick you do before you start your car. you hit the clutch 3 times then turn the key to "on" dont start the car. then hit the clutch 3 more times and start it. then your car will say. "im ready for action" when its warmed up completely

how bad is it if i dont let her warm up all the way and romp on it? i volunteer @ a FD, and i need to make to calls very quickly from my house (well to the FD first), so I usually run to my car, start it and thrown on my uniform in the driveway, then head to the FD. usually it only gets a chance to warm up like 20-30 seconds.... how bad is this? shud i consider getting a remote starter so i can start it from inside my house?

Honestly, you should be fine. It's a new car, not some 80s rotary car. Just don't take it to red line. You should be able to shift around 3k-4k rpm and be faster than traffic around you. The MS3 gets up to speed really quick, even shifting around 2k rpm.

Not bad, but your method pales in comparison to my "clutch clutch down down left right left right B A select start" technique that gives me infinite lives. I tested it by driving off several cliffs and here I still be.

lol im gonna try that!!

Good luck with that remote start and a manual... Clutch safety and finding a shop who will install something you could turn over through your garage door. LOL...

Manual says let it warm up till your RPM's drop. As long as you are not hammering on it you wont hurt it. Just make sure engine and trans are at temp before you drop the hammer. Just like letting the engine idle for 10 sec before turning it off. Doubt anyone lets the turbo cool down either...

For day to day city driving, I'll let her cool down if I get home, or if I get to the office, but anywhere else (supermarket, restaurant, work related trips around town, etc.) I probably won't.

I do try to do this if I've driven to have some fun, or after making a road trip, I'll put a good tune on, sing it for a bit and then shut her down.

You really only need 10-15 seconds at idle to cool it down. If you are home and can pop the hood that really helps! We do some spirited fun runs out here and these things get HOT!

I let it cool for about 30 seconds (again, looking at the dashhawk for runtime). It gives me enough time to do stuff like put up my sunshade and remove the face on my headunit.
