How good are the 2.3 engines and tranni on the 3?

same tranny as the protege I belive. your fine, don't worry. There are several articles that will tell you to actualy take it to resline several times to brek it in.

Oh great! Thanks man!

It is not a Protege' tranny

Hate to bust the Subie guys bubble, but if you do your homework, it is the exact same transmission as in the Mazda6 2.3. In fact the engine and trans are the exact same.

How did you hit 7500 from 1st to 2nd? You mean from 2nd to first, right?

regardless, it should be okay :) HOWEVER... if you go from 4th gear or 3rd gear or any forward gear into reverse... then we got something to talk about.

bouncing off the redline won't stress your car too much... but over time it will.

Dont worry about the redline man. I have hit it a couple of times because I forgot I was in the manual auto. It is good to hit the high RPMs every now and then.

redline'

It will actually rev that high? Shows around 6k some, that is crazy the limiter doesn't kick in earlier??

Most cars its like a hundred or so past redline is the rev. limiter....

I just hit the gas in 2st and didn't shift to 2nd until I hit 7500. It was a total accident. I just wasn't concentrating.

(2thumbs) Thats a relief. :) I've put 300 miles since I got the keys on last Saturday and I only did that once. It's mah baby, I don't want to hurt it.

redline/limiter

So are you just saying you can rev. to 7500? Or that is where the rev. limiter is?

Either way I am still amazed how high you can rev. vs. where redline shows on tach 6500'

Wild'

I would like to see a dyno if they are still making power around redline or dying out?

I'm certainly not going to disagree with someone who has a lot more knowledge with Mazdas than I. But I swear I hit 7500. My look was like this
(boom01) when it happened.

The Motorweek test of the MZ3 said it was out of breath at redline.
Thanks for sharing'

Atleast we know that 6500 shows redline on tach, we are not limited to to reving up to 6500, that is good to know w/ like autocross, your at redline, but pointless to shift w/ a corner/gate coming that you have another 1k rpm's or so before the rev. limiter :)

In my Se-R Spec V' right at redline is the rev. limiter, kick ya right down' , kinda sucks w/ my car' since car still makes power at redline/limiter' hard to judge by feel, gotta watch the tach.

Thanks for info!

You can switch your auto to manual and hit 7500 rpm easy. At 7500 your rev limiter kicks in. I know that with mine you have to be at 90mph or below to go from 4th to 3rd. It will not let you down shift if you are not under 7500 rpm. The only thing that I dont like about the auto trans is that pulling out in 1st it is sluggish to start, but other than that the manual auto is a ball to drive.
