How fast have you got your P5?

I was bored the other day so I decided to see how fast I could go. The car didn't quite want to go to 190km/h but it didn't govern out. Would the over-sized winter tires have anything to do with it? (and yes, the highway was completely dry, so I don't wanna hear anyone giving me s*** for it) I wonder if it would go faster if I put my new midpipe on and a RB catback? Right now theres only the header on there with the stock airbox...

ken says theres no governor chip and that the fastest we can go is 130 mph, give or take some.

i've got up to 220kmh and then it shuts down. at that time beyond a SRI there was no other performance mods on my protege5

LOL there are tons of these threads on here. I hit a governer at 132-134 MPH every single time.

You guys are crazy, wish I could do that where I live. Last time I hit about 100mph for the first time stupid cop pulled me over for wreckless driving. Yup there are cops everywhere where I live, they mostly hide in the bushes on their motorcycles. They mostly patrol areas where there are long stretch of roads without any stop sign or traffic lights for miles.

there is not an electronic governor on the protege5. this has been covered to death. the car is drag limited to around that speed.

Your NA right redneck? How in the hell did you get upto those speeds? Mine get upto 105mph and struggles to get any higher.

I've gone about 135...during the race I last looked at the spedometer when I was going 130, then I paid attention to the road for a while and that's when I let off the gas. So, I know I was past 130 and I'm sure I went 135 or very close to.

Then PLEASE explain to my why I'm still accelerating at 132 - 134 and suddenly the car looses power. I mean nothing, its like the engine dies. Keeping the pedal to the floor the car coasts down to 128-130 and BAM I suddenly have full power again until 132ish and BAM all power is shut off. I can do this over and over again for miles. I just did it today several times in a row on my way to Phoenix on the freeway.

EDIT: There was another guy that used to be in my car club with a 03.5 P5 and his did the same thing. If its not a governer then I don't know what it is. It feels exactly like my father-in-laws GMC truck that is governed at 98 mph.
What ever is causing my power to suddenly drop off the face of the earth is freaking annoying, Cause I'm still picking up speed when it happens. Hell it even happens going down hill. If I back off the throttle and feather it, I can hold 130 for miles at a time. As soon as I push down and hit the 132 to 134 mark the car shuts down with a vengance until I'm back under 130 then the power comes back on.

In other news:
The Mazda 6's have the same thing happen to them at 120.
Also my cruise control only works up to 100 mph. Over that it won't hold, I've tried. The picture I posted was on I-10 in California on the way back from Mazfest 2005. I had cruise set for the speed limit and got on a long flat stretch and just pushed the pedal to the floor and ran for several miles at 130. The two Mazda 6's that were with me were pissed cause their cars were being shut down at 120 and they couldn't keep up with me.

MP3 ECU - Injen CAI - Jet-Hot ceramic coated header - MAM midpipe - Magnaflow cat back exhaust - 8lbs track edition, 5-Zigen wheels. I'm no longer at the stock 95whp but currently at 117 whp before the light weight rims.

I'm still picking up speed at 130+ until the nonexistant governer shuts me down.

as you get to the drag limitation of the car it takes exponentialy more power to continue accelerating. as you get more mods and more power, you can go faster, but there is an exponential limit to how much power you need to go another mph faster. the cars have no governer, BUT the cruise control will not work over 100.

this explains the drag thing

the protege5 is rev limited at 7300rpm. but there isnt a speed limiter. rednecks you were probably hitting fuel cut off, which would explain your car shutting down like that.
