How fast are the GTPs???

until you get beat by a stock 2.0T. its funny when you pop your hood against lets say an S200 (because they are very well compressed and make alot of power out of a small engine) and then you look and say, why cant my giant piece of a supercharged engine cant keep up with this thing?

(iagree)

You are missing the point, Maxx. I'm not comparing japanese cars/engines with american cars. When i went to buy my car, i actually considered a red coupe GTP. I mean, look at their interiors, were the best at its time and their cars and design are unique (the aztec lol). They have used plastic, but hell what company hasn't. Have you got into a LS1 Trans Am? Even the third GEN trans am had a tight interior, with bucket seats and inflatable lumbars and s***. I'm not much aware of the latest models, but for the high 90's and first 2000s, Pontiac was very strong.

Ran my buddies stock '02 GTP S/C from a 20 roll awhile back, had em by 4 cars at the end of 4th when i shut 'er down. The newer ones are supposed to be faster from what i hear.....

...and that was me Unichip'd @ 9psi, Exhaust, tranny upgrades.

We had a 1998 GTP and it was decently quick. The new cars another story. The G6 GTP does 0-60 in 6.2 and the quarter in 14.4 @ 96 MPH and the newer Grand Prix GXP does 0-60 in 5.6 and the quarter in 14.2 @ 98 MPH. The old GTP was similar to the G6 GTP for performance.

to each his own, Im just telling you this is the reason why I would never even consider a pontiac.
deadgeneration: 80-180 pulls are dumb, either you cant go that fast because of traffic or your just asking for an accident/ticket. even on a track a 1/4 mile is done with by 100 or so. I like my cars to more importantly feel fast where it counts and where you can have fun with it, lower end. what good is a car if its not fun to drive.

plenty of options with cars if you want 0-60, quarter mile, fast around a track, ect. but for me I "idolize" highway rolls

I like going to the track...but quite honestly, i prefer top end acceleration over low end, unless i have a race car, then low end would be better. When you have cars that fast, 130mph is often reached quite easily...i know i do...at the track. The 06 6.0l GTO has a fast top end...fast enough to catch a 600cc bike after reaching 100mph.

i rather have that feeling of gaining on the guy that is infront of me that being infront of someone and being gained on...AWD is awesome but thats what i hate about it...*BOoM you are off*...look in the rear view mirror "nice...yeah, suck it...wait...oh s***, stay back...stay back...nooooooooooooo!!!!........*pause*.....*long sigh* *car passes by*....crap...oh well, the 1/4mile was over by then so i'll call it a technical win! yay!"

They were plastic cladded shitboxes. The words "Tight" and "Pontiac" should never be used in the same sentence. Just my opinion, based wholly upon fact.

My buddy has a WS6 Fireturd/T/A and it is uber fast but the doors rattle, the dash rattles and the T/Tops rattle. The back end of the thing may as well have Oil based tires...its all over the place.(beer)

I raced a firebird and beat him by like 3 or 4 cars so im not sure which one it was but it was slow... But that guy had T tops and he had water damage because they leaked... No thanks. My buddy had a 94 Z28 and it didnt leak on the T tops so maybe that says something....

Yeah the build quality and fit and finish may leave something to desired, man man if they didn't look goo, go fast and make a nice noise.

wouldn't buy one cause of the low quality though. Thats why I LOVE the GTO.

Its like the firebird TA, but with a nice interior, good fit and finish and a modicum of handling.

The rattleing depends on the owner, you can always stop a rattleing.

But, i'll put it this way:

Let's just mention every american car brand and put zoom zoom to it.

CHEVROLET ZOOM ZOOMs? : uumm nope. "Rebadged Cavaliers, Malibus and Impalas"

BUICK ZOOM ZOOMs?: (boom07)

JEEP/DODGE/CHRYSLER ZOOM ZOOMs?: the post srt-4 models are nice but it doesnt cut it.

FORD ZOOM ZOOMs?: "I just puked in my mouth a little"

CADILLAC ZOOM ZOOMs?: no.

PONTIAC ZOOM ZOOMs: YES, almost everycar they put out are sporty and have a sport more performance version AND FINISHES IN AM or starts with Grand! :P. Grand Am GT and Turbo!, Grand Prix GTP, Bonneville SSEi, (now GTP?)
Trans AM WS6, and look at all the G series, dont they looks sporty? Red colored instruments. It's the only american car company that wants a zoom zoom image.

Pontiac, Chevy and surprisingly Cadillac are my 3 fave american carmakers!

T-Top seals are known to leak after becoming old. They just need to be replaced.

and a firebird (unless it was a fireHAWK, but then you wouldnt have said it was slow) = slow v6 (comparitively)

the trans ams were the LT-1(older)/LS1(newer) models you should fear. I will agree with the interior statement though. They are not "tight" by any stretch of the imagination. However it is what it is... a stupidly fast, long, heavy sports car. Straight out muscle? Theyre awesome. Anything more? They leave a little to be desired. I will however always be jealous of a 2001/2002 Trans Am WS6 w/ ramair and catted exaust. Man they look/sound amazing.

Have anyone seen a third gen GTA trans am interiors? It look like a space shuttle with all the digital clusters and gauges.

I had a '99 GTP stay with me in my '00 Mustang GT (stock) door to door...but it's fwd, man! If you're gonna put a v-8 in a car, make it rwd. That's the only problem I have.
