What no one has mentioned yet is that ALL short rams for the protege 5 will run your master cylinder. You will have to modify the piping to fit. IE; cutting it shorter or finding a 90degree silicone elbow.

you just threw a wrench into things for me, can you elaborate on that please?

If you want the bracket thing to hold the filter in place then get the second one, if you dont then get the first one.

I meant to say RUBS your master cylinder.

go take alook at where your throttle body is. Now go look at the pictures of the piping. You will see what im talking about.

I dont know if theres anywhere to put that bracket thing anyways, id go with the one without it I guess.

There is an easy (and cheap) fix for this problem.
Let me take a pic of mine tomorrow and show you how it's done.

All you have to do is mess around with it until you get clearance. Push the first fitting down over the ears on the throttle body instead of letting it stop at the ears. This will give you a little extra to get past the master cylinder. Gotta leave room for the clamp tho. Then just push the first elbow of pipe all the way in an angle it away from the master cylinder as much as possible while still pointing it forward where it needs to be. It's a balncing act but is doable. Also use the bracket thing to attach to one of the original MAF screw holes then attach it to something that moves with the motor so that there is no tug-of-war between the engine movement & a static point on the chassis/body. It's good stuff, enjoy, you can do IT. Get that K&N when you can. I use an RC4650 with the prefilter cover deal on it. I pointed mine where it ends up between the fuse box & driver headlight after relocating the overflow tank. Moving that is just unscrewing the bracket & choosing a different bolt hole on the body. You don't even have to disconnect the line to radiator.

Man I crack up at that "nestled in the meat curtains " thing. Even heard it used to some degree in some movie. I live in Texas so the phrase "cortinas del carne" is gringo confusiono to "real" spanish speaking people. They don't get it. That's just funny s***......+1 (first) back atcha on that. Meant to post back first time I saw it. Good stuff!
