How does the MSP audio rate?

Well i just got a MSP and one guy at the dealer told me not to touch anything in the audio department in my car. He told me its just balance as it is...w/e that means.

Anyways any of you who has a MSP and who knows his audio sh!t tell me what you'll rate it and what i should change and not change.

Coming from a person who would never spend any $$ on a system, I love it, but I'm sure the hardcore sound people will tell you it isn't great at all & that you should change out the sub ASAP.

on some days i wish the volume went up to 35 or some s***, but oh well. the way i listen to my music im probably going to be buying new speakers or some thing in a couple months

The sub is crap. Mine broke twice int he span of 6 months (two different ones, the first one came with the car, the second was its replacement). Also...as you start tossing power at the door speakers, they will tend to get a little harsh (well...a lot). That's typical of Kenwood's style.

My whole system except for the rear doors is changing...pics will be in this section when everthing is done!

You should hear them with 50W RMS running to them...they could caus permanent damage...UGH!

Parcel Tray? Gotta me on your meaning, mate.

If you mean the rear deck, we can't becasue that's where the sub enclosure is. Also, if you have the rears that high and give them the same power as the front doors, you'd throw off the front soundstage. If you remove the sub enclosure (like I did) you can do it...but it'll be a pain to make sure those wires are hooked up, and you'll want to run those off the HU and the fronts off an amp.

ok when your saying change the sub you mean add a for example JBL 8inch into that little compartment or getting a box for the trunk.

I just hear a lot of people have problems with the powered sub more than any thing. It may be that it gives you just a hint of bass only to make you want more so people overdrive them and blow fuses or the amp or the woofer.

Many people are killing the sub do to turning on the boosting circuits in the head unit. The sub is weak as is (for most peoples taste) add to that turning up the radios bass adjustment and POOOF!! No more sub.
Many people don't know how to listen for distortion and the sub has some common failures anyways.

The headunit is great for features but fairly unreliable. This is nothing new for kenwood flip faces. Expect that some day it will just decide to flip halfway around and get stuck.

The speakers are the major lacking part to my ears. I hate kenwood speakers.

If your going to adjust anything remeber that you should not use the bass adjustment. The NF level is specificly for the sub and if the amps gain is set properly it will be able to go to max without distortion. Bass on the other is only distortion, thats all it does. Distortion is what kills speakers.

I'm going to second Black Majik's post. I love the stock stereo setup, but keep in mind that is coming from someone who wouldn't spend money on putting a sound system in a car. Nor will I (or would I know how to) mess around with the various levels on whatever things everyone is talking about above.

We mostly play mp3 discs, but we did get the Sirius satellite radio installed just recently, and love that too.

It's entirely dependant on your listening volume...

If you plan on listening loud, then the kenwood's need to go. They are harsh, and extremely treble & mid-heavy when driven with a source other than the head unit. If you're running off the head unit, then you are limited in volume because of the distortion caused by the internal amp. And when you listen to music quietly, the speakers are actually too mellow in response and have *no* pop to them.

If you use the Q settings (Rock, Jazz, Pop, etc.), then you are cranking up the things that 1st (and I) suggest that you don't. I mean...if you're listening to those Q presets at a volume level at or below 22, you're fine...but after that you're causing distortion and a larger loss of SQ the higher you go.

This is all my opinion from first hand experience with the system and making changes to it.

Exactly...my eclipse sounds great, but there's only one catch. It only sounds great on decent speakers. The Kenwood's have excellent power handling, and they're durability has been fine. They *are* Kenwood's top of the line coaxes...however, they are still a far cry from JL, BA, CDT, Eclipse, etc. JL audio's website has a great little section here describing what speakers should sound like. Overall, you still have to trust your ears, since asking a question like how the MSP's audio rates will obviously get you some subjective answers.
