Truthfully, i dont park at all. I avoid the parking lot all together. not because i am afraid of being hit, but that i am afraid of hitting somebody else! i suck at parking!

i can speed, Autocross, fly through traffic at dangerous velocities, but under 10mph, watch out i'll kill you! :D

in a parking lot I.....:
- try to park away from the point of entry to the mall / supermarket
- try to avoid parking near entry/exit points / shopping car collection
- try to aviod parking in compact spaces
- never park next to SUV, minivan, truck.... that is pretty hard in los angeles
- never park next to old cars.... or something that looks like its driven by a dumbass... ie when the guy parks like really sideways in the spot

- do not ever take up more than one spot.... unless late at night or when clearly there are way too many parking spaces free..... my friend got off and kicked in a benz SUV for doing that... it was a very very very full lot and I think that gets everyone pissed off.

i try to park at the end of rows where there is extra space and then hug the curb. that works okay, no door dings yet! i used to park 100 miles away, but my wife got tired of having to call a cab to get to the mall.

I usually just park next to cars that are obviously cared for. It's usually pretty obvious who is going to take care not to ding you.

I'll admit...I have given people a few dents.

I walked up to my white grand marquis one day and noticed a scratch with a red streak across my rear quarter panel...and what do you know, there was a red car next to me. I checked his front bumper corner and amazingly, there was a white streek across it. hmm.

So I as I open my door to get in my car it felt unusually light and BAM, opps. oh well.

Another parking tip: don't ever go to Walmart. It is the one parking lot, no matter what branch location, you are almost garunteed to get a dent. There are just too many inconsiderate drivers, young, old, etc.
