How do you park?

I park as far away as possible and always arm my alarm. I hate door dings, and dont mind walking that extra couple of feet to keep my car nice. Where i used to work, me and another sports car owner used to park our cars in the back of the lot, taking up like 2 spots each. But no one ever parked next to us, so it was kinda fun.
I worked in an office on the second floor with a window view of my car. And I have an alarm. I wasn't worried about it. Plus, everyone at the company knew me and liked me...My car is my life, they all know that. So, most of the people there woulda said something if someone tried anything anyway...it was fun while it lasted.
Well parking at your office and parking in a mall parking lot are a bit different. I'm a little scared to park up close because of the dings, but I'm afraid to park waaaay out there due to someone keying the car or something like that. A ding seems a little easier to remove than a car-length long scratch.

No I havn't......and I don't park it where its so totally isolated that there arn't people around...but just go out to the end of the rows and usually put a few spaces inbetween me and the last car....
I also use the ISLAND idea that egg mentioned.....at least ONE side is protected that way.....
I'm a bit nervous about getting an orange car. Something about the attention is bugging me. While I'd love driving down the street turning heads, there's the "Look at me, I'm Spicy Orange" factor that also applies in parking lots. Maybe I should just trust the world a bit more.. ;P

Well, I take up one space and just that one space. I like the mystery & suspense involved in walking around the car looking for dings and scratches! But I park next to the cars that seem brand new or the cars that are really expensive, and never next to coups with big doors. I also try and find a spot that I am only parking next to one car, not two.
I would never take up more than one space in a parking lot. To do so is tantamount to putting a "Please key me" sign in the window. I prefer the stealthy approach of lying low a bit aways.
Funny though, I don't park waaaay away from the last car in a row, since I too worry about standing out and being a target for - oh hell I'll buy into the kid's jargon (whoops, just dated myself) - "haters".
My car has ZERO "dings" on it, and it's a 1999 with one previous owner, not too shabby. It does have a few rock chips on the hood of course.

I park waaay out in the back of the lot. It still worries me however that someone will vandalize my car in a fit of jealosy. Also, I've had a few friends with new cars that liked to take multiple places. Even if the parking places were in the back of the lot, there would always be that one moron that didn't like that and would do something to the car.
I've also found that most of my friends don't want to ride with me anymore because they have to walk long distances from the back of the lot, heh. Therefore, we take their car which saves my gas, my milage, and risk of damage to my car.

dammit, those descriptions were too damn long, and thus i voted for the wrong one. I take up one spot, but I park FAR AWAY.

I would prefer to park in East Bum F**K but that is not always possible. At work I take up one spot and I look for a spot between cars that have already parked. That way I know the amount of space on either side of me. I usually back my car in as well...cause its fun I guess.
At the mall I find a spot that is 2 or 3 spots away from the last car in the row. I don't mind if someone parks next to me, but parking in a high change-over spot (like right out side the entrance) increases the risk of someone who is in a rush parking next to you. I also avoid 2-door coupes such as camaros and firebirds.
When I'm in the city, a new problem arises...bumper scratches. I have been lucky so far, but there are alot of people who park with the bumper-tap method. No one here of course, but if you see someone do it as you walk by, give them a friendly "what the **** do you think you are doing!" even if it isn't your car.

I always try to get a spot on the end of an aisle, preferably next to an island. If I am at work, I will park next to people I work with who will be there all day long just like me. I also avoid parking next to trucks and SUVs, especially ones from the 70's and 80's. I also try to park away from the front row spaces, where cars are constantly leaving and entering. However, I don't park so far away that my car becomes a target to punks and theives.
Taking up more than one parking space is just asking for trouble. I've seen people deliberately push shopping carts into cars taking up more than one space. I've also seen it go as far as having a pickup truck tie a rope to a car, and drag it into one parking space. This guy tied a rope through the spokes on a rim and just pulled the car right over. Then he parked right next to it. Not to mention taking up two spaces draws unnecessary attention to your car and it will wind up getting broken into or keyed.

I agree with the two-space thing, mazdadan. I've done it a few times at my work lot, only because a snow bank covered most of the spot. Otherwise I find it rather snooty of people who think their car deserves two spots. And then theres the whole attention attracting thing that comes with it. Park farther away, and away from vans/trucks/SUVs is my motto.
