How do you find your CX-5 highway acceleration to be?

My experience is anecdotal. Recently there was a moose on the highway. Traffic was stopped and when I passed the moose and police cars, I was doing around 15-20kmh. I hammered the gas, right to the floor. Not very much oof I must say. Disappointing actually. But when I'm at highways speeds, there is more than enough pick up for me.

Try "squeezing" the pedal [all the way to the floor] rather than stomping. Just move your foot a little slower, and see if that makes a difference. It's counterintuitive, but it works for me.

Yeah that's how you know they don't have anything better to do and are sitting around if they are writing tickets for stinkin' 3 MPH over. That's just bovine feces.

When I was a kid, my older brother had an Austin Healey 3000 (probably a MK1 or a MK2). The cops would pull him over almost as soon as he got out of the driveway...just because. So one day my mother's car was in the shop, and she borrowed my brother's 3000. Sure enough, not long after pulling on the road, there were red lights in the rear view mirror. The cop gets out of his car, walks up to the 3000, sees my mother behind the wheel, doesn't utter a syllable, walks back to his car, gets in it and drives off.

It has since become a highly desired place to live (a nice bedroom community less than 10 miles from DC). The house I lived in for 35 years (I actually used to deliver newspapers to it) funded a big chunk of my retirement...and it got torn down so a McMansion could be erected.

Ugh. That's awful.

As for the McMansion, yep, hate when stuff like that happens.

You guys should Google 'Coquihalla Summit' here in BC for some entertaining mountain pass videos. So many semi trucks with roasted brakes on the way down lol

And in the winter.... yikes, don't even get me started.

I had a red MGB as a teenager and the cops would pull me over in that for no reason. I often got tickets for going 40 in a 35 and driving "aggressively" and so on. Drove me nuts. My brother had a silver 928, which I occasionally drove as well and the cops would never even look at me. Made no sense. I always put it down to the color and have not had a red car since.

I just brought up a couple of vids.

I give it a Pucker Factor of about 9.7

Highway Thru Hell- Jamie Davis is his boy- Al Quiring is my guy..we typically follow that up with an All Girls Garage episode..we agree on Cristy Lee;)

I had a mustard yellow Bugeye Sprite.

Got pulled once when I squealed around a corner. It was kinda funny, the cop shined his flashlight on the front tires as though looking for worn tread, but without lifting the bonnet, he really couldn't see anything. He told me to "Take it easy."

Funny, I've never heard of either. That reminds me I need to cancel my TV service and go internet only lol

Haha 2 pretty good shows though..and Cristy Lee is pretty fine.

Just googled a trailer...

Yeah 9.7 pucker factor sounds about right A.D. haha

As for this Christy Lee...let's see what google has to 'say' about her... Fair enough Monty ;)

Though I myself prefer redheads, brunettes and more exotic ladies...but I wouldn't kick her out of bed for eat'n crackers.

..Because closure is not an option..I hear that probably 3 or 4 times per weekend- my kid absolutely loves that show..hey Cristy!

I used to drive a RAV4 2010 V6. Fast and fun. When I got my CX-5 it was not wild more of quick but as other have mentioned when you reach 80 mph that needle will move a bit slow. Set to sports mode and will you well get a little improvement. Discovered nirvana and I have been driving my CX-5 on manual mode for several months now. Since then I no longer miss my V6 banger. Yes drive your CX-5 on manual and you will enjoy it a lot. You got the right gear when you zoom zoom on those twisties.

One reviewer I watched (who really loved every aspect of the car) said that the manual shift has a bit of a lag/hesitation to it each time you change gears. That being said, it's funny to see how these reviewers contradict each other. One guy says that it is most fun on back roads, while another says that it's a great highway car but does not really ask to be taken onto back roads. I've seen other contradictions on other aspects of the vehicle. I guess it's like reviewing restaurants: "Tastes fine to me."

So that being said:

1-Is it responsive when you shift manually?
2-Does the manual shift make a differences at the 80MPH+ speeds? Are you staying on the power curve in 5th gear?
3-How's your mileage? ;)

My gen1 definitely more at home on back roads than highway imo where it runs on the louder side..I manually shift the car all the time- it works well if not quite as snappy as my x1's ZF8...be nice if Mazda offered paddles but at least the orientation (backward to upshift) is absolutely correct imo. A/C off the car feels totally adequate, A/C on I wish it had more mainly for pulling Taconic hills without having to drop 1 or 2 @70...A/C on that's a must just to maintain..
