How do you find your CX-5 highway acceleration to be?

My experience is anecdotal. Recently there was a moose on the highway. Traffic was stopped and when I passed the moose and police cars, I was doing around 15-20kmh. I hammered the gas, right to the floor. Not very much oof I must say. Disappointing actually. But when I'm at highways speeds, there is more than enough pick up for me.

Try "squeezing" the pedal [all the way to the floor] rather than stomping. Just move your foot a little slower, and see if that makes a difference. It's counterintuitive, but it works for me.

It has since become a highly desired place to live (a nice bedroom community less than 10 miles from DC). The house I lived in for 35 years (I actually used to deliver newspapers to it) funded a big chunk of my retirement...and it got torn down so a McMansion could be erected.

Got pulled once when I squealed around a corner. It was kinda funny, the cop shined his flashlight on the front tires as though looking for worn tread, but without lifting the bonnet, he really couldn't see anything. He told me to "Take it easy."

I used to drive a RAV4 2010 V6. Fast and fun. When I got my CX-5 it was not wild more of quick but as other have mentioned when you reach 80 mph that needle will move a bit slow. Set to sports mode and will you well get a little improvement. Discovered nirvana and I have been driving my CX-5 on manual mode for several months now. Since then I no longer miss my V6 banger. Yes drive your CX-5 on manual and you will enjoy it a lot. You got the right gear when you zoom zoom on those twisties.

One reviewer I watched (who really loved every aspect of the car) said that the manual shift has a bit of a lag/hesitation to it each time you change gears. That being said, it's funny to see how these reviewers contradict each other. One guy says that it is most fun on back roads, while another says that it's a great highway car but does not really ask to be taken onto back roads. I've seen other contradictions on other aspects of the vehicle. I guess it's like reviewing restaurants: "Tastes fine to <i>me</i>."

So that being said:

1-Is it responsive when you shift manually?
2-Does the manual shift make a differences at the 80MPH+ speeds? Are you staying on the power curve in 5th gear?
3-How's your mileage?

My gen1 definitely more at home on back roads than highway imo where it runs on the louder side..I manually shift the car all the time- it works well if not quite as snappy as my x1's ZF8...be nice if Mazda offered paddles but at least the orientation (backward to upshift) is absolutely correct imo. A/C off the car feels totally adequate, A/C on I wish it had more mainly for pulling Taconic hills without having to drop 1 or 2 @70...A/C on that's a must just to maintain..

Stays in power curve and normally locks out 5th and 6th gear.
