for these cars, I recommend heavier shifter knobs..seems to smooth out the shifts a little bit. I personally got a Greddy (Trust) Shifter Knob specifically fit for the Protege5.
I had a Team VooDoo knob (see sig) and combined with the bushings, ss and synthetic fluid, I was able to shift with one finger easily. it was like butta
**edit** oh yeah, if you're in a hot climate (i.e. south east/mid/west) you might want to shy away from a completely metal knob just because 3rd degree burns aren't cool even if you are flying through the shifts
i really want one of those nice momo knobs, but apparently they're not threaded and have the screws to hold it against the shifter...which i hear come loose over time...?
oh btw... I have a brand-new Mazda3 knob that I won in the Salvation Army raffle from ProtegeGarage if anyone with a p5/3rd gen wants one... black leather with metal shift pattern, nice weight to it as well
contact me if interested and I can start a thread (to follow forum rules) with the pic and such (not sure what its worth and I'm not looking to make a ton of dinero off of it... I was thinking I might just give the money to charity anyways (to be in the spirit and all )
