Umm - that's one LONG run-on sentence :)

And I don't care whether you asked for sympathy or not - you got it. Do with it as you please.

As to asking a public forum about tips on how to commit a crime that affects the statistics on insurance and theft and will eventually come back to bite us on the arse - good job my friend. (screwy)

Seriously,

I couldn't believe that it took till the very last post on the first page for someone to point out what he is asking is illegal. Not just kinda, sorta illegal.

First of all, flip all the computer animated birds you want to at me, it ain't gonna hurt my feelings. But, while you're at it take a moment to realize that there are some people on here trying to keep you from getting your ass in legal trouble.

Second, how the hell would you feel if you bought a car only to find out later that it had a s*** load of miles on it that weren't recorded on the odometer? That's why these laws exist. To keep crooked dealers and private parties from selling cars with fraudulent mileage and/or hidden problems.

I understand that is not your intention. It sounds like unforeseen problems have put you in a tight spot. That sucks and I am sorry and I hope everything is ok now. But, this is not the right move.

For what you'd end up paying for buying a cluster to swap out and what you might end up paying in fines and legal fees you can go buy a beater to drive to work/school and back. That way your car's mileage stays low and the interior/exterior stays nice and clean. That way you end up with a decent return value and you aren't breaking the law or screwing anyone down the road.

that way it's also cheaper to claim your 6 as a weekend only driver for insurance purposes

There is no way to trick the pcm. Your mileage is going to rack up no matter what you try. It is recorded in more than just the pcm and instrument cluster. And no dealership can just change your mileage....it can only be done on a brand new instrument cluster once. Sorry....I suggest taking the mileage penalty and be happy your not charged with a felony.

I can't believe this thread is even still open.

When you lease a vehicle, you don't drive it beyond what you've already calculated it for. Sorry to hear about your family, but you should've rented a car. I thought all leasees knew to do that.

yeah i know most new cars if you leave the odo unpluged for a period of time, it will throw a error code on the odo its self, so watch out you dumbass.

I don't see how its also stored in the ECU, if you can swap gauge clusters and retain the same milage. You think if it was stored in the ECU, the gauge cluster would simply report what the ECU was holding, or at least be updated with the previous ECU data.

it's stored in 2 places due to the intent of this thread (2thumbs)

Well until someone posts some cold hard facts, I'm going to theorize that, at least for the Proteges, the mileage is only stored in the cluster itself.

Well the members who did the sport elumenesent gauges instal went to the dealership to get it reflashed to the mileage that the PCM held. everything is ran off the pcm for the 6. If you use the can bus scanner it lets you even see throttle positions and coolant temps. wait...who's side are you on dexter?

I'm not on anyones side, although i think milage fraud is really lame.
Yeah the 6 is wired to the teath...for all we know there might even be a harness for later added black box like devices to record the codes we delete like fuel trim and vad sensor stuck open for warrenty issues. would I be screwed....I already had the salesman walk up to me at an autocross.

exactly. why is this thread still open and this tool not banned. he comes on the forum and his only posts have to do with trying to get away with something illegal. then he turns around and flames members for not helping and pointing out the fact what he's doing is wrong.
