how dirty does you CAI filter get?

When I first bought my Injen I installed it as a SRI, just after 1 week I decided to run it like a CAI and I had it like that for about 3 months. This weekend I thought it was time to clean the filter. The filter itself was not very dirty at all, but there was a lot of dirt, sand, and even mud around where it connects to the pipe. It rained a lot here last week so I am thinking the rain "washed" the filter, but I wonder how much gunk finds its way through the filter and into the engine? Also only after 3 months the filter did not show any signs of having any oil. I know the filter gets wet when it rains. I am not really afraid of hydrolock, but I am more concerned about how well the filter works saturated with water and no oil. I am thinking of switching back to a SRI.

Does anyone know how often the filter should be cleaned and re-oiled. I would imagine that having it setup as an SRI would keep the filter cleaner, and as far as water goes I wouldnt worry unless you drove your car into a lake. The filter sits pretty high.

(dark) No matter what intake you have... splurge and go get a K&N cone filter to fit it.... They are the ones who gave birth to, raised, and to this day, bar none, have perfected the air filter. Get the oil and cleaner kit, and clean it once every 2-4 weeks depending on how much you love your MSP! (hump)

The apexi power intake filter is better than the k&N it's been proven.

Btw.. I definitely have to change or clean my filter I have had it on my car for about 6+ months and I already have had two oil changes and haven't change it I will however change it at 15,000 miles my car has like 12,800 miles on it right now.

2-4 weeks is way overkill....and considering how much of a pain in the ass it is to get to the cai filter on the msp, i wouldn't do it every 2-4 weeks...

I am concerned that very fine dirt (sand, silt, etc) can find its way into the engine and cause premature wear?

If your using a k&n you don't need to even clean it until 10-15k miles. Even more that's a very conservative figure.

Is this true?? I do plan on getting a K&N to replace my injen filter but am unsure which size to go with plus my filter is fairly new, I just put it on in February.
