I have this fear that my LSD is gonna go, I don't really drive it super hard, but I cant really afford a new one right now.
Soooo...
If and When your LSD went out, how did it happen? How were you driving the car at the time? and what exactly in these LSD's breaks?
what can I do to aviod damage to my LSD?
I want to put new Tranny fluid in it next week, would somthing like Redline Shockproof gear oil work well to keep it from breaking? or is a good quality 75W90 like royal purple or redline work best?

Just take it easy on it and dont boost to much i broke mine shifting quick to 2nd gear

came to a stop sign, started drivinging, half way through intersection it felt like the car slipped out of gear, tried all gears, but it will just feel like you are revving the car in neutral. coasted off the road/ new revised lsd is great. thanks mazda.

alot of people will say that their lsd broke under normal driving conditions.

popping the clutch and other shock loads will cause the lsd to fail. just because it fails under normal driving conditions, doesnt mean it failed out of no where. the more you abuse it, the longer it will last.

yashooa was running high boost on his lsd and it lasted for 100,000 miles.

i ran 55k on my lsd, and i had zero issues at all. However, i do not shock the lsd.

Pounded the s*** out of mine for 104,000 miles and then it broke while I gently pulled away from a stoplight at 2MPH.
Ran 12 PSI with a catless midpipe to and it lasted a long time.
I rebuilt the tranny with a welded diff.

mine was good for about 70,000 of un kind driving lol. then i jumped on it in first at an intersection and it went pop and i went :( lol.

so, its the spider gears that shatter? what exactly happens to them?

I see that alot of people have welded diffs. How does that effect the drivability? Did you just buy another stock diff and weld the spiders together or what?

Ring gear Breaks its Weak Factory welds and comes loose from the housing.

the welded lsd increases driveability, cause when you romp on it you dont have to be like man i wonder if its going to break this time or next time.

it doesnt hurt anything to go a head a weld over the pins. just make sure you have a good shop do the welding.

i still dont know of anyone who has snapped their lsd who had full motor mounts on their car, i believe its what keeps mine healthy. 80k of hard ass driving on the msp on the same lsd.

Damn you Platinum but your probably riught. Mine broke in second gear about 1/3 throtle at like 25mph, ghey...

if you are scared about it breaking take yours out now and get it welded so you can controll when the car is going to be down and you dont have to pay like 600 bucks for a new lsd cause yours is broken. so what im saying is just take yours out now and get it welded.

That would not explain those who broke them with very low miles. Perhaps a couple of people were hooligans but I am certain there are those who just drove the car mildly and they still came loose. I say the design just sucks, not function, but the way the ring attaches to the diff.
I personally feel it is a genetic defect in every MSP and sooner or later you will hear that dreaded "zing zing zing" as the you give it gas and the car does not move.

I need to look up the procedure for R&R of the diff.
It does not look like its gonna be easy.
I guess I can probably set aside a Saturday to go to the shop and pull it, weld it, and then re-install it.
