How can I tell if I have a 2003.5?

I just bought my P5 and the sticker says 2003 but the date on the door ( inside) says it was manufactured 09/02..I think I paid the full price so was I ripped off? Or was this the beginning date of the 2003's? I have the no cover cup holder, roof rack black strips but no roof rack, and the tweeters by the side mirrors..I haven't looked to see if there is a subwoofer but being a Canadian car I guess I don't have one. Do I have a 2003?

Models made in 2002 are actually the 2003 models. In fact, some automakers were already selling 2004 models in 2002. It's all about marketing. Supply and demand is one of the thing that dictates the price you pay. If the Protege5 is hot (as it is in many areas), expect to pay close to sticker since the dealer knows they won't stay on the lot long. However, if they have a lot of 2003 models around and the 2004 are starting to arrive, they tend to make deals on the 2003 to get rid of inventory.

Mine JUST got off the truck(supposedly) when I bought it a month ago, it's a 2003.5 and the build date is 12/02. generally if it's built in september it's considered the next model year.

a 03.5 has a sub and depends on what opitions u want doesnt change the year with the sub. u can get roof rack, 6 cd player, alloy wheels, leather, and what ever u want. 03.5 has the sub and its about a 4 inch with built in amp and it does the job

I just got an 03.5 protege5 and it has the subwoofer and 1cd in dash. I got it for 4500 off the sticker price since they are trying to move inventory. I saw that there is a new Mazda coming out next year called the Mazda 3. Rumor has it this is replacing the protege. Anyone know anything about this?

yea protege 5 are no longer being made this is the last yr for them thats why all are getting big rebats on them. i have heard about an MSP Protege from an mazda rep himself but who knows!!!

Ever think about supercharging. Mine has been supercharged now for 11 years, still going strong. Has one of the original test production units from Sebring, before Jackson came along and took things over.

U.S. models get the black housings on the 2003.5, Canadians started getting them on the 2003.

I also got mine in May, and is the same - sub, no roof rack, etc. But to add more complications to this thread, mine was a 2003 that had the "mid-cycle refresh" applied to it, thus turning it into a 2003.5.

It was manufactured in Nov 2002, thus making it a 2003 (they probably started manufacturing 2003's for sale sometime in the summer of 2002). My red P5 then traveled to America and hung around for a while, until they modified it to meet the specs for the 2003.5 models. That meant that somebody in North America removed the roof rack and installed the subwoofer. The most obvious sign is that "mid-cycle refresh" was actually listed on the window sticker. Also, I got a second fuse box cover - the original was still in place, and the second one was hanging out in the map pocket of the driver's door. The second cover had a specific spot marked for the subwoofer on the fuse chart, the first did not.

I also noticed on the black strips in the gutters where the roof rack goes that there are 4 little black plastic tabs with arrows on them. For people who did not get the roof rack on their 2003.5, do you have the same, or are the strips just plain? I wish they had left the roof rack installed...

Hehee... I own one of the only 2002's I've actually seen on the road... Old style swept wheels, no tweeters, no subwoofer in the back, roofracks, which have since been removed, no sidemarkers, and no alarm light. Flip open cup holders (If you want to call them that... I call them random small object holders, 'cause a cup really doesn't sit well in those. ), and the funky dimpled shifter. Who knows, maybe I own one of the very first produced. Hehee. I should try and find out what my production number is. =P

That's what mine has and I thought I had just the 2003. Mine was made in 09/02 so I thought that meant first of the 2003's..I guess I must have the 2003.5 unless they did nothing to change them from 2003 to 2003.5.
