how are your bulbs holding up (GT)?

specifically your bulbs like LED tails and OEM xenon low beams

obviously a downfall of the gt package is cost to replace said items if they were to go out. xenon bulbs are considerably more than halogens, and i don't even want to look at how much it would cost me if one of the tail lights goes out completely. even if one or two LEDs go out i wonder if that would fail inspection

just trying to get a census of ppl who have had their OEM xenons start to purple (telltale sign of aging) or LEDs go bad

only have 19,xxx miles on the car and only had it for 1.5 years, but they're holding up so far lol

HID bulbs are relatively cheap ~$45 for a quality pair. Like you, I would be more worried about the cost of replacing the LED tails if and when they go out.

Ebay has a plethora of HID bulbs... don't be suckered into paying $150+ bucks a bulb from mazda.

eh, im very wary of things that i know to be normally expensive but have cheap alternatives. it's a subconscious thing, and my brain can't shut my gut up enough for me to give in. this probably explains why i bought the mazdaspeed cai, and from the dealer no less.

im sure the LED tail lights are not hooked up in series, but at the same time i wouldn't be able to stand it if i saw 1 or 2 out. and i always start to worry once im driving and see another car with LEDs out. normally the ones i see are on the dealer installed spoilers (you know the kind where they put them on, and never take out or disengage the factory 3rd brake light) and a lot of times you see a couple LEDs flicker or go out whilst braking.

and then you see brand new cars with xenons out, too. guess im just a worrier

can you link me to some ebay hid d2s bulbs in 6000k that are a reputable brand name? I don't want to buy something cheap and get something even cheaper.. hopefully i can get something for cheap and have it be just sorta cheap and just work :P

When my stock HID bulbs go out, I will be ordering a pair from here. They have the Philips OEM bulbs for $90 (which is far cheaper than what Mazda sells I'm sure) and another, what seems like a comparable brand, for $45 - and in different temps. I ordered the clear lenses from there and it was super good service. They answer e-mails in a prompt fashion and are super nice.

Why would LED taillights burn out? LEDs, in general, have a very long lifespan

yes they do have a long lifespan, but like anything else in the universe they don't last forever. and there are plenty of LEDs all over the place that go out for whatever reason (cheap, voltage issues, grounding issues). im sure you've seen your share of LED traffic lights that have sections of diodes out, or have started flashing or whatever, i know i have

my only point is to kinda see if anyone has had any problems with them so far. and honestly i probably should have posted in the regular 3 section seeing how they've been out since, what, 2003 or something? not sure if there has always been an LED brake light option but i think since they went to the clear tail lenses they have.

any info i can get from this will be purely to keep in the back of my mind about the car. and maybe in the future can help with my "what to/what not to get" checklist for the next car. i already have black as a color to not ever get again, learned my lesson there real quick. im also not sure about the alcantara (or suede-like material in general) cuz i wear pretty hard on my cars seats.

maybe i should have started the thread like that...."what part of this car disuades you from future car purchases?" although that could all go back to that "ms3 quirks" thread

just purchased some 6000k d2s bulbs from ddmtuning. hopefully they give me that white look with minimal output loss... anyone else have 6000k d2s bulbs from ddmtuning wanna chime in? sorry for thread jacking but hey, maybe people can state how their aftermarket hid bulbs are doing :P

6000 is a little too high for white. "they" say that 4300-4500 is the whitest white you can get, and the highest lumens before you start going bluer, then more purple, and start losing lumens
