Hope for us Auto Guys yet...

I just found this!

I is a stock auto.

I do have the tiptronic/manumatic/manual auto mode option though.

I use it all the time.

Auto ftw!

Im a turbo auto btw. msp turbo, fmu, o2 clamp, hopefully afcss soon.
I dont know what the differences are between the improver and a vb upgrade are, hoping some of you might find a way to compare maybe one of you guys with the vb upgrade buy one for your neighbors protege and compare. Ive never rode in a vb car so I dont know if the shifts are as fast or what, but the improver is way better than stock and tuneable + pretty inexpensive.

i'm updating as soon as i hear from you guys...

question: if i'm coming from a dead stop... i press on the gas and then it bogs down then goes up... the whole car jerks... is this a transmission issue? i'll try and take vids of it or something... and my brother said he may have heard some ticking in the engine bay..... (o.0) i havent replaced the transmission fluid either... and im at ~80k mi

well. i sorta asked this but after a little more research, ill revise my queston:

Which company provides the better Rebuild kit between lentech or level 10?
Ive tried searching around but haven't found much information about it.

Great to hear the shift improver works =) you should post a how to on installing it.

You should definitely do that.. ASAP!! Take it to a shop and have them hook it up to a vacuum so they clean it out real good, then dump out their cheap-o fluid and get yourself some synthetic. Make sure it's M-V fluid (I've been using Mobil1) and you should be good for a while.

It doesn't sound like a tranny issue, but if you've never changed your fluid at 85K miles then it's definitely time for it.

List of us Auto Guys:

NA:

BinoMP5
fishdontbounce

Tom03es - Lentech VB upgrade and Hayden aux fluid cooler
Kura808
jeg0024

Turbo:

bazooka_joe
KrayzieFox
fLiPiNoY7
asmo_03_mp5
SIBaller23

Perhaps this list would be better if we listed our transmission upgrades as well our induction type. I figure the rest of the bolt ons don't really matter for this discussion, but at least we can have a list of who has what regarding the transmission.

sanblaster1: engine mods k&n air filter, front strut tower bar....

lord zath is another auto P5 dude.

from what i previously heard, lentech just has better products and service overall...but ive been hearing that alto makes a pretty good rebuild kit as well...

bino, should be "fLyPiNoY7" not "fLiPiNoY7"...haha

Yeah, I haz Hayden ATF cooler :)

GB on either yes please!
still curious to see if both can be used together for a positive benefit.

This thread has actually got me pretty excited at the prospect of upgrading these trannies. not gonna lie, been looking on and off for the last few months to find a good manual p5 to trade for, but this thread and some other ones kicking here are starting to make me forget about all that and start researching tranny build options =)

this link contains a pretty good introduction to how automatics work for those *me* who dont know a lot about them.
second link a view of how parts go together.

I wonder if there are any additional parts you can get for the street terminator package to take it beyond 300whp. which is again why im curious how the lentech and level 10 packages compare.

I think ill spring for one of those shift improver's pretty soon. might be a while before i can afford my VB, and my poor tranny has started to slip on rare occasion going from 2nd to 3rd.

oh, some other questions..
for those of us who dont have the tiptronic, are there options to prevent the transmission from downshifting? and I know it has been discussed on this forum somewhere, but is it possible to add tiptronic functionality.
arent they physically the same unit?
forgive the noobness. I am one. learning a lot though. daily almost heh.

Id say lentech becouse level10 is hard to contact, made a few calls and never got a hold of them.
trying to get my camera working then Ill post up how to on it.

I got some video of my gauge cluster before my VB install. I haven't gone out to refilm since the install. I'm not sure if you could really see anything from the video anyway. It's more of a feel thing.

question for the turbo autos, did all of you guys go with a FMIC ?
yes

i can't speak of the Level 10 products, but the Lentech VB upgrade was worth it for me, great service, spoke with Len several times...good folks those canadians!(canada)

again, if i'm drving a bit more agressively (having some fun, not commuting to work) i shift the car manually for the much needed torque/revs fun factor...i try not boosting until i reach 3k rpms, so in an auto in D, that's tough because the tranny is always looking to get into that next highest gear.

About what Valk said ( i wont qoute because he wrote like a page) I would be very interested in something to keep the tranny from downshifting when you just stomp it going slow, because i do it probably every 2nd day and i really dont need it downshifting and tearing itself apart.

I thought Lentech had a manual controller- their site is blocked at work so I can't provide a link.
