hooked up egr to crankcase

Paulmp3,

That is what I thought. You guys are confused. The EGR means "exhaust gas recirculation" which is the pipe coming from the exhaust manifold to the intake manifold via the EGR valve which is controlled by the ECU.

The PCV means "positive crankcase ventilation" . That is designed to let the motor breathe the blowby gases that come around the piston rings. Those gases are ducted to the intake manifold and the intake hose in the stock system. When you turbocharge your car, the hose coming from the side of the valve cover should be connected to the inlet duct before the turbo inlet, but after the MAF sensor.

my pcv is hooked up correctly. My question is where is this EGR valve located. Is it right in the throttle body?

The EGR was the pipe that went from your exhaust manifold back toward the back/side of the motor. There is a large hex nut that screws into the EGR. What I did was cut the hexnut off the pipe, filled the hexnut with JB Weld, and screwed the hex nut back into the hole.

The EGR valve is located in the intake manifold. It has a large connector with 6 or 8 wires. If you look underneath the throttle body you will see it.

GOTZOOM is correct. . .it is kind of below the TB. I plugged my EGR at first. . .but kept getting a CEL for "EGR Flow Insufficient". So, in order to get some flow there, I connected the valve cover breather to the EGR "plug" with a hose and provide it with "flow". My CEL went away and I've had no problems. No SVXIN has tried it and had problems. Which sucks because it worked for me and not for him.

If you put a filter on the valve cover breather, you should be fine, I don't know that you have to plumb it into the intake, but I can't for the life of me figure out why you would have problems with what I did. . .but there is obviously something wrong with my logic if it caused someone problems.

Oh, is that why the damn CEL is on. I just ignore it. It will be going off soon anyway as soon as my Microtech gets here.:D

Ah ha. . .at least another one that shows I'm not losing my mind! :D

It is really (and I mean REALLY) bugging me that svxin is having problems. . .I thought I was giving him good advice. . .hell it worked like a champ on my car! Lots of that going on in my head this weekend.

Uhm, could be that under boost you have a leaking piston seal and presurizing the crankcase and blowing oil out the PCV...

Try just venting the crankcase with a filter...

If that fixes it - you pro'ly have a leak... :(

Hey Beavis I''ve hooked up my EGR to the valve cover to and my CEL went away and the car is running fine.

but....are you both running with cats? and all sensors plugged?

where are your O2 sensors plugged?
And can you post a picture?

Yeah I'm running with 1 cat and both O2 sensor hooked up .

In this pic I haven't hooked up the EGR to the valve cover yet I'll post updated pics tomorrow.

I'm running with only the second cat and both O2 sensors in the exhaust. . .what are you fishing for? I'm not sure what you're getting at? Just curious though.

Just to see if you are hooking up the second sensor AFTER the catalytic converter.

And....to see the hookup on the EGR

Beavis...still no digital camera??...cmon' (nuts)

?????????
What do you want a picture of?
There is too much s*** in the way to get something that shows the "plumbing" I did. The explanation at the beginning of the thread pretty much sums it up though.

ok i am back i dont know why my car smokes while i have my egr hooked up to my crankcase vent i am not sure only does it after i go into boost and let off the gas maybe my oil return line is to curvy dont know but my car runs fine with a breather on it and doesnt smoke while hooked up this way so i dont know ill rerout my oil return line when i put my new mani on and rehook it up to the egr to see if thats whats wrong and also it mostly smokes like around the turbo like oil is getting past the seal and into the exhaust white smoke stinks like oil. oh well ill finde out if its my return line once i get my new mani and put it all back togeather man it feels good to take a vacation

i have no cats and no exhaust just dp and first o2 sensor i dont drive the car much i am waiting on my new mani after that i am having a full stainless exhaust made tig welded with a hi flo cat and apex n1 muffler black, should be cool oh by the way whare did all you guys find a extra motor i would like to pick one up but there hard to finde and how much did they run you? winter time build up he he he he.

Im going to try this trick this weekend. I hope it works. Does anyone please have some pics of this procedure done??? PLEASE HELP!!
