hoods

sorry for the noob question but are the protege 3, 5, and mazdaspeed hoods all the same size? the reason i'm asking is that i've recieved my dgmotorsport carbon fiber hood and it doesn't fit properly. the holes and hood brackets line up fine but the hood is tight the the fender on one side and close to a half inch off on the other?

that can happen during shipping I suppose...try getting the holes redrilled or something?

I agree with Melicha UNLESS your car has been wrecked in the front and its misaligned in the fenders, not the hood.

hood

car has never been wrecked, bought it with 7 miles two months ago. dgmotorsports is claiming that I need to pay shipping to get it back there, and when a new one is returned they'll pay for that only(providing that the hood is at fault, which it obviously is) either way i'm out like $160 for shipping.:wtf:

I'm a Bodyman and what I can tell you is most of all aftermarket parts fit like s***! Loosen up the fender bolts and fix your gaps, just the bolts that run along the hood. You could send it back, but the next one they send will most likely fit the same!

This guy came to my shop and had a carbonfiber hood put on his neon, and the fender gaps where almost a inch wide!

Thats why good insurance pays off, if you got cheap insurance they like to use Aftermarket parts, and they fit like crap! But it saves them money, and keeps our premiums down.

fender bolts

to loosen those bolts, it looks like i'd have to remove the fender. when i pay $700 for something that is supposed to be top of the line in quality/crafsmanship, i expect it to fit! the first time!
and there is no way i could have the holes in the hood redrilled, the variance is just too small. guess i'm sending it back. thanks for the input guys.

Loosen the three 10mm bolts on the edge of the fender then pull the fender out or push it in depending on what you need! It's that easy!!

well....

i've been tinkering with it and its fitting better. still high on one side only. we'll see what happens tommorrow after work.

The gaps are better? But now one of the front corners are higher?
If so, there are rubber stoppers located on each side of the radiator support! Screw the stopper on the high side in a couple of turns till the hood gets flush with the fender.

Hope this helps!

Chris

better

hood fits better now, i understand it won't be perfect. got hood/fender gaps close enough not to notice any difference, but i still have the front right of the hood a little high. yes, i did screw in the rubber stopper, i think its just the way the hood is. gotta say it still looks damn good, i'll post pics later.

hood pins will help. they will pull the hood down a little plus it is much safer if you are on the freeway alot..
cusco makes a nice set of locking hood pics if u want to go jdm style plus it gives u the added level of protection.. let me know what you end up doing
John

also.. try torquing down the bolt that hold the hood to the hood arm thingee on that side.. maybe tightening it a little will bring it down. -=)
