I drove a 1999 accord for a year. Their not slow, but their not that quick either. My father owned it, and I drove it when times were a little bad for me that year. Anyhow, sweat ass car, very comfortable, handles like utter s***, and since it's an automatic there's a few tricks to get it to perform the best it can.
When I had my mp3 up for sale, and the folks went away for a few weeks, I took the accord again. And the car would eat the mp3 alive in a straight line ONLY. But I have no doubt my speed could blow past it from a standstill or highway.
On another note. My father just traded that 1999 accord coupe v6 auto, in for a 2003 Accord Coupe v6 auto. Now with 240 horse, I was expecting whiplash driving it....but nope. starting off the 1999 seemed quicker, but on the highway it's a different story.
As for the speed, I can pull away from him anytime I want around town. the v6 auto is not quick at all for 240 horses worth of engine. I was really disappointed. It's really more for a relaxed, comfortable luxery type drive, which it does extremely well. On the highway, she has no problems picking up speed, but while I haven't had the opportunity to try proving it, I'm sure the speed is faster again until maybe about 110mph where I am guessing the big v6 would pull on me.
Now, a 4cyl with a lot of cargo in it = really slow.
a v6 with a lot of cargo in it = not so slow. Advantage of 2 more cyls.
4cyls can't handle weight at all. Try Driving driving uphill with 4 fat people in her
