HOLY CRAP! 31mpg

Not bad. I never can get more than 29mpg on trips, car is loaded too much and the mountains and the high speed limits kill my milage. I usually average 31 for my commute.

Miata92, I agree. I get really annoyed that my 5 gets the same milage as my old turbocharged stang, but has way less power. And I could beat on the stang and still get the 28 mpg! My NA stang would get 30-35mpg and that's a friggin 1974 pinto motor that's .3L larger!

yeah and those cars polluted like mad. that 2.3L motor had no power. my friend had an 89 tempo and that thing was balls slow.

all you people who are claiming over 30mpg consistently, how closely are you actually monitoring it?

This is the first time i actually paid attention. I filled the tank at 360 miles with 11.5 gallons of petrol. It just blew my mind that it got that great of mileage considering the conditions. (rockon)

It is set up to run pretty rich because i didnt have a really good way to tune it. Now i have an emanage so things should be improving!

You must have a leak in your fuel line to be that low. Or you should trade up to a Hummer2 to get better mileage.

Last weekend I got 32 mpg coming back from SC with the A/C blasting the whole way.
And the car was stuffed with 2 other people, a surfboard, a ice chest full of coke, and some more luggage.

the ol Pro5 got 31 miles per gallon with a carload of dudes and the a/c pumping out the whole way. its about a 5 hour drive roughly 360 miles. I freakin love it!

thats great.....i got a little under 30 MPG with both my kayaks on top a couple weeks ago going close to 300 miles on the highway w/o using AC and having windows half way open.....

was very happy with that......

got about 27 with one kayak on top last weekend with the AC on mix city and fast highway driving.......

not bad!

I got 34 once driving back and forth from Austin to Galveston TX...but usually i get about 29-31 depending on how fast i decide to drive.

i dont know how, but on the way to vegas, i stopped to gas up after maybe 200 miles at 80 mph w/o ac and got 40 mpg.(wow) could it be the fuel injection cleaner i put in when gassing up prior to heading out?

31.5+ the worst I get, 35.3 the best I've gotten. Average around 33. (rockon) BTW, I monitor every fillup and figure it to the hundreths of a gallon.

Maybe somethings wrong but when I'm cruising at 70mph, my tach. is at 3450 rpms. I usually only get 26-30 mpg on the highway but I use 91octane and am not sure if that plays a part.

i filled up yesterday and got a whopping 21 mpg 100% bad LA traffic city driving. its probably cause i have an auto...the manuals seem to get much better mileage

Well I guess that was the problem..Our car is designed to run 87 octane.
Youre wasting your money putting 91 octane. Our cars ecu/timing is programmed to run just 87 octane unless if your running an MP3 ECU i your car. (wow)

I dont think he's running an MP3 ECU because of the auto tranny.

Last week I cruised from LA to Phoenix ... on one tank of gas! 6.5 hours and 417 miles later I still had fumes to spare. I was actually disapointed to have to stop to take a leak. :D This is the first time I've taken this trip in my Pro5 and I was pretty shocked. I've traveled this route at least 50 times over the years in a multitude of cars and never gotten mileage this good. Apart from being parked on a few local freways when i started out, I was averaging around 80 mph, with the AC blasting the entire time. I few of my mods probably helped out: K&N CAI, Magnocor wires, RR-Racing UDP and a Racing Beat cat-back. Next time I'm in MAM-Land I'm going to drop off my OBX header at Jet-Hot and pick up a catted mid-pipe at MAM. Gotta love that increased performance = more MPG when you're cruising! (rockon)

just filled up on my lunch break and i went 260 on 10 gallons really pumped into the tank.......26 MPG which is my normal milage with my summer driving....half highway and half city driving.....

okay...because of this post, i ran a little experiment this past week. I'm at school now, so the large majority of my driving is freeway (school to home, school to gf...etc). My usual cruising speed is between 75 and 80, which is usually puts the car at about 3500 rpm give or take a little. this week I completely stopped using the ac and drove with the cruise control on at 70 the entire time. This put me at about 3000-3100rpm. I put 237.3 miles on my car before i decided to get a fill up for my trip back from the west side of Michigan today. 8.641 gallons, which, according to my calculations, gives me 27.46 mpg. I've gotten better mileage than that with a 50/50 mix of city and highway! this angers me...

I don't want to seem like I'm bitching...it's just seems like I'm never going to get to pull 30+ mpg in this car. Any suggestions? I bought this car used at 36k miles and can't really attest for the maintenance...but the previous owner was awesome and the car runs great. I don't beat on this thing...it's my baby. The only engine bay mods I have at the moment is a K&N CCA and a Optima Red Top. What gives?!?

you guys expecting over 30mpg should calm down a bit. If you check the mileage advertised for these cars (if you still have your original purchase papers, it will be in there), you will see that it is like 26 city 29 highway, so hitting 30+ isn't to be all that expected...
