OK so I am not sure if this is where this should go but....

I saw this exhaust at NOPI and feel in love with it. It looks so tight on the WRX. The HKS guy said that they are making the universal and that is should sell for about $350. So my Questions are. Is the muffler too big for the P5 and is there any way to get it to come out kind of angled like on the WRX without have clearence issues if the car is lowered or is actually driven...

I also saw it on a few cars down there and heard it on one. All I can say is wow. I am really stuck between this exhaust and the Apex N1 in Black. I am having custom mandrel bent piping so please save the comments of Why don't you just get a Bosal or Skunk or Thermal or whatever. The big thing for me is the muffler. For example I love the sound of thermal exhausts but hate the p5 muffler for it. Anyway let me know what you think about this exhaust or maybe even angling the Apex N1. HKS said they have no plans to make an exhaust for our cars as did APEX so I am left with a universal muffler and a custom system .

BTW My car is Black Mica and I am going all carbon fiber.

I think I should point ot that FunWagon and I already know that there is no performance gain to be madde by having our mufflers like this. It is purely for looks. Here is another shot which explain what we're talking about.

Do any of you guys have any info. All thoughts will be entertained, good or bad.

Thanks for hopping on this thread. I saw your thread and wasn't trying to jack it or anything but I wasn't seeing the responses I was hoping for and so I tried this thread. I think it would look awesome on our cars to have the exhaust that way.

Come on everybody else chime in on this one please. I am literally just spinning my wheels with little problems like this before I do alot of my mods because like most I have a picture of what I want my car to look like in my head and I am just trying to get it there. Any thoughts ???????

What about some of you tech guys>>> Can it be done! safely!

I also want comments on the actual exhaust. it is damn light and like I said sounds wicked. At least it did on the wrx. I know there isn't a comparison of the cars but it gave me an idea of the tone and resonance.

Well, the universal as it looks on the WRX is a 3-inch opening. I guess the question is do you want to fabricate new piping to fit a universal 3, or would you want to get the universal 2?

Well I know that for the HKS it is a 3" opening on the muffler and as for the apex I beleive it is also a 3" opening. I kind of remember seeing a universal fit apex n1 smaller than 3" but maybe I was imagining it. Anyway My thoughts on that were since I don't have a turbo and don't plan on one until warranty is up I am not going to do 3" piping. 2.5" is the max that I want to go. What the guy at the exhast shop said he could do is use a convertor or reducer to fit the 3" opening to the custom mandrel bent 2.5" piping. he said he could most likely place the muffler anyway that I want but without having the muffler there and having my car in the air with the stock system off there would be no way to tell. Thats when I turned to these boards.

The N/A APEXi N1 Universal muffler has a 60mm inlet (roughly 2.36 inches) and a 90mm tip (3.5 inch tip). So, if you get custom 2.25 piping done, you'll be fine. I think we're on our own FuNwagOn since no one seems to be backing us up.:(

It will work as I previously stated on the other thread, I myself have an HKS unit. Its not the carbon one but its exactly the same exhaust and sound just that the carbon is wrapped with CF and has the titanium tip but they are both the same exhaust dimension, flow and sound wise.

These are pics of the stainless 3 inch exhaust.........just to get an idea for size but this is not cocked sideways wrx style

Hey spoolin Thanks tons for the help on this. Is there any way I could get a shot of underneath your car or maybe you could explain your setup. Cats? No Cats? Resonator? ETC? Did you just get custom piping as we plan to do or just go to meinike. Also are you happy with the sound and quality. Any dislikes.. etc. How is it at highway speeds. thanks again man . I am still trying to get a feel for how much of a slant or angle I can mount it at. IE how much room is there under the car.

With the apex n1 there's room to angle it down a few degrees but not by much in order to get anywhere near the factory bracket. as for running the piping under the lower a-arms I don't think that's a viable option espcially if the car's lowered. If I can borrow my work laptop I'll try and get some sound clips.
