HIDs in MS3 fog lights

no
fog lights don't need white light, they need yellow light as that's what's useful for lighting up the road through fog... there's no reason to drive with them on otherwise because it adds unnecessary glare to other drivers (especially in rain) and does nothing to improve visibility in non-fog situations because of how low and wide the beam is.... in fact, it is illegal in europe to drive with the fog lights on when there's no fog!

you said "arc"... that's what an HID is... the light pattern by nature is an ARC and therefore the properties is completely different from an axial filament which has more or less a straight light... no matter which position you move the HID bulb to, the result is still ****** up

in otherwords, even with the "smart" people using projectors for HID conversions, it's still ****** up unless they use a purpose built D2S projector... otherwise cramming D2S bulbs in an H7 mazda3 headlight projector is barely better than cramming it in an H7 protege5 headlight housing

if you're so damned smart, why don't you call up NHTSA and tell them why HID retrofits should now be legal because they "came a long way" and that the SAE labs, TUEV, ECE approved testing centers are all wrong in that they're agreeing that HID retrofits are ****** up... prove to me (which wrote an HID article in case you're too good to search for it), NHTSA, SAE, TUEV, UNECE, etc are all wrong... yes go ahead and call them up and you'll see how much time you've wasted arguing over physics

They are either using the projectors from an Audi, Honda S2000 or the best on the market, Acura TL projectors. You can sit there and speak the legalities all day long, but it isnt going to stop people from placing them on their car. As long as its done in an intelligent fashion, your wasting your breath with me. Furthermore, if you want to preach legal, NHTSA, SAE and TUEV, i guess its wise for you to leave your car stock and that includes, performance parts. the projectors you've mentioned *are* purpose built HID projectors
H7 projectors on a mazda3 headlight (which is non-HID), late model integra, etc are NOT

Would it matter if I said I was going to get the 3000k HID kit, and that this is only being done for apperance and not visibilty purposes ???

By the way, they can be aimed. There is a screw at the back you loosen, then you can tilt the assembly up or down and tighten back up.

Great pics, I like (thumb). Excuse my ignorants, but I would consider blue HID fogs for my car, but are they legal?

Just started going through this thread and saw Chronus' post and that he lives in Virginia. Chronus, before doing anything with the head lights or fog lights on your MS3, I would check with a state approved inspection station or the Va DOT. Va, like my home state, NC, has some fairly strict laws on vehicle lighting. I would hate to hear that you had just invested $100+ on blue fog lights, then got a $100 ticket for improper equipment and had to change back to the factory bulbs.

Car gets a LOT of looks with yellow HIDs. I had 8K and 5K before, just didnt look right. The yellow bulbs were an additional $75 for the pair, but worth every penny imho. Go for it and post back with pics!

Is that only because you have a silverms3? What about for the black mica or the crystal pearl white? what colours would look good for those?

I think most tuner cars with a decent HID color temperature for the headlights and the 3000k HID fogs looks good as long as its not RICEY !!! Its almost the same as putting on the yellow overlay on the fog lights, but Im doing this cause I dont want the yellow film, but still want the yellow lights; yes I know I can just change out the bulb and get some yellow ones, but hey why not go all out and get the whole 9 yards

btw ... I have a black mica speed3, so if you give me till next week, you can see how it looks on a black mica.

Finished the projector retrofit into the stock foglight housings on the speed3 about 4 weeks ago and finally finished putting a 3000k HID H3 kit in them. Note the pics of the illumination patter are not the stock reflector based foglights, they are Bosch H3 projectors. Here are the pics....

driver's perspective sequence shots of the lighting on the speed3 as follows... 5000k HID lowbeams w/ OEM HID projectors on, 3000k H3 HID foglight projectors on, and finally both the low beams and foglights on.

The following are some shots to compare the lighting setup on my little brother's Mz3 (my old Mz3) and the new speed3 lighting config. The lighting setup on the Mz3 are stock HIDs for lowbeams and MDX projector foglights w/ a 4700k system. The night time shots are taken at 1/2-1 second exposures, so the glare is a bit exagerrated.
