HIDs in MS3 fog lights

Yes, according to the owners manual ours (mazdaspeed3 with the square fog lights) uses the 9006 bulb, while the mazda3's with the round fog lights are the ones that uses the H11's

Hey Haltech, did you keep the metal thingy surrounding the stock bulb or did you take that out???

Kept it in, its a glare deflector.

uhhh ok... how come does the IS300 with HIDs don't have projectors then? :rolleyes:

it doesn't matter if the HID bulb you put in there is the same length or not... the focal point of the light have changed and the geometrics of the light have changed, which REQUIRES you to change the reflector design to compensate for the light pattern changes

this has been talked and EXPLAINED already in the other threads on why HID retrofits on headlights are UNSAFE... the same rules apply to foglights

you can't argue with physics

Do you know what page in the owner's manual this is on? I flipped through it twice now and can't seem to find it. thanks!

Ill tell you why the IS300 doesnt have projectors... They use reflectors with an hid bulb called a D2R... If you were to take a headlight that uses a halogen reflector, added aftermarket HID without a glare protector, you will obviously shoot glare out from the lights. Smart people use projectors for aftermarket HID conversions in the headlights for anti glare. If you look at a ms3 fog light, it shoots so damn low to the ground, youre not going to get glare. Stock MS3 foglights already have glare at the sides as is....



If you move the arch back on a HID converted bulb, you will eliminate a good amount of the glare. IF you use the newer HID kits out there whos HID bulbs are the SAME length as the bulb youre replacing, the arch is set properly... HID conversions have come along way from years ago.. Instead of wasting your time to attack every post i make without actually comprehending what im saying, you wont look so stupid.

For the 2007 Mazda3 manual you can find the following information on each page as listed below:

Replacing a fog light bulb; Page 8-45
Fog Light bulb specifications; Page 10-7
ps: there's two types of bulbs listed in the manual, to find out which one you need to use turn to page 10-8.

Hope that helps you and whoever flipped through the manual and couldnt mind it.

Found it... I guess I didn't realize the square fog lamps on the Mazda3 is the same as the floating square fog lamps on the MS3... and that 9006 = HB4. (loser)
 
Well I wouldn't really consider replacing the bulbs as a mod... but I love Haltech's HID kit for his fog lights. That would be a mod worth pondering.

Ummmmmmmm I thought that's what you knew I was asking, if you're going to do the HID kit in the fog lights, like its stated in the first post and in the title of the thread ... hope that didnt come out too harsh ... but yea thats what this thread was all about ... installing a HID kit in the fog lights (smash) lol
 
Yeah... I originally just thought about replacing the bulb only hence figuring out the specs. But might as well go balls in, right?

LOL yea, Im only doing this for appearance and wanted to see if anyone else has done it to their speed3, now finding out the spec, I think Im up for it
 
Car gets a LOT of looks with yellow HIDs. I had 8K and 5K before, just didnt look right. The yellow bulbs were an additional $75 for the pair, but worth every penny imho. Go for it and post back with pics!

Going going gooooooooooooooone !!! lol, Just here waiting on the kit, hopefully they reach here by the end of this week. I'll take some before and after pictures so everyone can see the difference in appearance :D

you said "arc"... that's what an HID is... the light pattern by nature is an ARC and therefore the properties is completely different from an axial filament which has more or less a straight light... no matter which position you move the HID bulb to, the result is still ****** up

in otherwords, even with the "smart" people using projectors for HID conversions, it's still ****** up unless they use a purpose built D2S projector... otherwise cramming D2S bulbs in an H7 mazda3 headlight projector is barely better than cramming it in an H7 protege5 headlight housing

if you're so damned smart, why don't you call up NHTSA and tell them why HID retrofits should now be legal because they "came a long way" and that the SAE labs, TUEV, ECE approved testing centers are all wrong in that they're agreeing that HID retrofits are ****** up... prove to me (which wrote an HID article in case you're too good to search for it), NHTSA, SAE, TUEV, UNECE, etc are all wrong... yes go ahead and call them up and you'll see how much time you've wasted arguing over physics
