Hidden screens in the Nav

Here's something to play with if you have the Navigation option. Go to the menu, Navigation Setup. Click on Calibration, then Show Version. Now, with the joystick do two clicks up, then two clicks down. You now have a new menu with choices of screens that get into details of the satelites, dead recconing sensors, GPS based digital speedometer and other fun stuff. I am not sure it is good for anything except entertainment, but is it always cool to have cheat codes for stuff. You can check you speedometer accuracy.

Have fun and let me know if you discover anything else.

There are a few more screens, use a different number of 'ups' and 'downs'. this has been 'discovered' previously. still fun tho...

Q: the screen showing MPH always shows 0 on mine, anyone figure out how to enable this?

EDIT. I'll be darned if I can find the old thread here, but if the mod's allow, here is a link to a similar thread in another forum.

Here is a bit more info filched from another thread:
Code:
Backdoor 1: (NAVI ECU Info Menu)

Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Up, Up

Backdoor 2:

Up, Up, Down, Down

Backdoor 3: (System Analysis)

Up, Up, Up, Down, Down, Down, Up, Down
 .
There's yet a different menu screen as well that gives a more accurate text reading, but still not perfect:

1. Open the menu
2. Choose "setup menu"
3. Choose "system information"
4. Choose "version"
5. Push the joystick forward 3 times
6. Push the joystick rearward 3 times
7. Push the joystick forward 2 times
8. Select the second menu option- something like Vehicle Sensors

This screen displays vehicle speed in km/h, voltage reading, and the gyro output voltage. I was toying with this on the way home and quickly realized this isn't GPS measured speed, but input from the vehicles speed sensors.

As I mentioned in a different thread, my speedo reads high because of my slightly lower profile snow tires, but I also suspect an inflated reading intentionally put in by Mazda as they have done on the Miatas as well. Someone with OEM tires should see if this Nav measurement differs from their speedo- I'm curious if mazda just dummied up the digital speedo, but let the real speed signal be fed into the nav. Another thing to note is the speed on this display is not very granular- once you're out of the teens, it seems to only move in increments of 3km/h, and slightly slower than real time. I suppose this is used for the nav systems' "dead reckoning" mode when it can't get a solid signal from GPS so it keeps tracking you based on your speed and gyro inputs combined with a known path you're on when you lost signal.

There is a screen with GPS signal information on it (longitude, latitude, altitude, speed, and compass direction), but for some reason the speed and direction are not updated on this screen- they always say 0km/hr and North.

What I thought was neat was watching the reading the nav is fed from the DSC's gyro unit... it's surprisingly sensitive. At +2.5V, you're going straight... anything higher and you're turning right, and anything lower, you're turning left. The problem comes in when you're trying to pull as many G's as possible on a hard turn to see how high or low a reading you can get... kinda like your own personal skidpad :P

I searched around and found two more codes mentioned, but they don't work on my '07. I would love to be able to record a route.

the car need to be moving in order for the speedemeter to work

Does anybody know if there is a way to override the lockout?
It drives me bonkers that even if I have a passenger, I can't use the nav system unless I'm stopped. Ok, I understand why it's done. I understand that a driver shouldn't be messing with a nav system while driving at 60 mph (though frankly if they made it a touchscreen system and/or voice-activated like MOST OTHER GPS SYSTEMS are, it would be infinitely easier than playing with the stupid joystick). But if I have a passenger and I'm trying to go somewhere that was a spur of the moment decision, the car should allow somebody to mess with the system to set a destination.

Any ideas? Is it possible?

Bump for this question. And I wonder why they didn't put voice command, because the nav in my Mazda5 had voice command. It was a 06.

The Nav locks out most commands when going over about 2 MPH. There is no way to disable this unless you want to hack the software. It knows how fast you are going - it's a Nav!

As for the voice command, this might be possible. The diagnostic screens talk about a microphone which is "not present" in our implementation. Since the 6 has it, someone with a 6 manual should look up where the microphone connects into the Nav main unit connector. It might work just to add the mic. Another useful piece of information would be to compare the DVDs between a 3 and a 6; if they are the same, it should work. If they are different, possibly the 6 DVD would enable the voice.

any progress on this?

voice command would be sweet... also being able to adjust it while driving would be cool...
