HID kit interferes with FM radio

For those with the Sport MS3 that have installed plug-and-play HID kits.. do you notice a lot of static when listening to your FM stations? When my HIDs are off, the radio is fine, but as soon as I turn on my HIDS, I get a ton of static. Anyone else experiencing this? I've googled the problem and it seems as if a lot of other people are having the same problem with other kits and on other model cars.

BTW, I have the DDM kit with the slim ballasts.

Where did you mount the ballasts? I had the same problem with mine....moved them and no more FM static.

One ballast is on the frame behind the head light. The other is on a plastic piece near the radiator.

Where did you mount yours if you don't mind me asking. Also, thanks for your input!

I have a DDM kit on my dirt bike, but no radio. Works great! (ughdance)

I have been wanting to get a DDM kit for my car, any reviews on it other than the interference? What wattage did you get? What temp? Is it better than stock?

yea man thats been happening with me too, i thought hids are supposed to use less energy and burn cooler then reg bulbs, but when i start my car and turn them on my rpms drop like 2-300 and then come back up

To answer your questions on the DDM kits, first I must say that they are great. I got the 35w slim kit with 5000k bulbs. Right when you turn them on, they have a tint of blue, but once warmed up after about 2 minutes, they are almost crystal white. Obviously they are better than stock coming from regular halogen bulbs, but I can't compare them to stock MS3 GT HID's since I never had them.

I do have pics but they don't do the HIDs any justice because the pics I took are crap. I didn't bring a tripod and I didn't set the exposure time long enough.

Overall, I'm very satisfied with the DDM HID kit. Now I just need to move the ballasts like Cookim6 did to see if that fixes the static issue.

Well at the time of the interference, PS one was attached behind the wheelwell, and the DS one was attached to the battery box.

WEll they do take less power,

To slove this problem you can do 1 of 2 things.
Its iether the actuall interferance from the Trasformer( box ballast). so do get it away youll need to place them somewhere else, the actual transformer is not shielded so you will need to get somethig to shield the electromagnetic signals. any piece of metal will usually do, that will suck in most of the interferance.

Case number 2 tho is the problem i had with my HID on my protege, and thats the actually wires runny from the battery to the ballasts and this is casued by the transformer needing extra power when first turning them on the transformer needs more energy yes hence why sometimes your rpm will go down but it shoudl go back up casue once running the HIDS are warm enough to take less power then standard bulbs

i hope this helps you guys with your problems, basically any metal shielded 2 inchs around your ballast should take care of singal problems you just need something to block those signals.

Kinda like a shielded wire does. it has a outside layer to protect the signal from interferance.

Where did you mount them afterwards to get rid of the interference?
It was the one near the battery box that was causing the interference. I think the wires were too close to the main wires from the battery. Moved the ballast down, moved the wires, and no issues now.
