HID + Highbeams during the day

i noticed that during the day when i flash my highbeams at someone to signal a "go ahead"
it also triggers my HID lowbeams. (along with the highbeam/drl)

keeping in mind mine is an 07
in DRL mode, it uses the highbeam at a lower level
and when the highbeam lever is pulled back it pumps a higher/constant voltage into the highbeam bulb(obviously) but what i don't like, is that it also turns on the lowbeams where the ever so sensitive HID system is installed.

woudn't the flashing of an HID system shorten the life of the bulbs/ballast?

any suggestions to get around this?

i suppose one way might be tapping a signal out of the fusebox' DRL fuse and putting the HID system on a normally closed switch so that the HID's never come on during the day? this could get messy though

maybe another thing i can do is to have them on ALL the time? (prefer to conserve the life of my probably-sub-quality bulbs)

i don't want a 'behavioral/operational solution' like "flash your fogs instead"
or "don't be so nice letting people in" :P

you pretty summed it up either have to try and re-wire the switches like you stated or just stick your hand out the window instead to wave some one to turn>?>

As a new member I don't want to start a new thread for this, but as it's sorta related...

I don't know anything about xenon, can someone give me the basics?
Here's what I think... (I have a little experience with lights requiring ballasts)

- They need to 'warm up'
- Turning them on and off is worse than leaving them on
- It sounds like they don't have a "bright" and "dim" function
- The MS3 supplements the xenon 'dims' with halogen 'brights'

I don't know what car efm-7 has, but it sounds like an MS3 to me. Are DRL normally available/activate-able on the MS3?

i should have mentioned, but my car is not the speed 3, just the non-turbo 3

ended up building a delay circuit to delay the turn-on by a second

so as long as i keep each flash of the highbeam under a second, the HID's will never be triggered :)
