HID Conversion Beam Pattern

Hey guys. Just wanted to ask if this beam pattern seemed right to you. I honestly can't remember what it was like with halogens. Is the "wave" thing supposed to be like that, or does the passenger light need to be adjusted up a bit?

Generally, I'm impressed by the stock halogen projectors. They seem to have a very smooth distribution of light and very little glare, since I did the anti-glare mod. The best part of all, they have a little bit of purple at the cutoff like oem HID setups do. What's the deal with the projectors? I keep hearing that they are the same as the MS6 ones. Is it true, or just bs?

One more question. I got a 5000k 35watt kit, yet when the bulbs are fully warmed up they look bluish-purplish when the car is facing you, seems like 6000-7000K The output on the ground, however, is white. Are the projectors just making it look deeper in color, like some Acura ones do?

Thanks.

first if you installed HIDs in a car that did not come with HIDs the level will never be perfect due to the fact that the headlight assy is not set up to the proper pattern for HIDs.
That being said HIDs when set properly will project out in a step pattern with the drivers side being lower than the passenger side. That is to stop them from blinding oncomming traffic...
Think of the light pattern as a series of 3 steps with the drivers side being the lowest step and the pass side where the highest step would be and thats what the pattern should look like

.

The wave should not be there it should be a straight line with defined steps going up from drivers side to pass side....

Hmm...I've found a few shots of the pattern of others that did this mod, and theirs was about the same. Wavy and all. I just wish I could find the pattern for the stock halogens to compare with.

Here is a pic of what it should look like.

as you can see the line is ruler straight with a step up starting from left to right

you get the wave because the beam pattern is designed differently for the halogen projector. a proper retrofit would include a projector designed for oem HID so you can have the correct beam pattern with cut off (although the retrofit still remains non-road legal in the US). i do not know if the speed6 headlamp assembly is the same as the normal mazda6, but my guess is no. the price for 1 normal mazda 6 halogen assembly is about $600, while a speed6 headlamp assembly is around $1000. also the 2003-2005 headlamps were slightly different than the 2006-2008 refresh.

The 03-05 had the integrated fog light in the housing, the 06-08 did not. I also believe that the the regular 6 headlamp with HIDs is about the same price as the the MS6 with HIDs (Xenon in the catalog)(confirmed from OMPs website).

I think in most cases, the projector for the 6 is adequate to produce light output that is close to OEM HID setups. On a traditional reflector setup, good luck. Way too much scatter and the intensity of the light coming off the reflector is too much for oncoming traffic.

It definitely produces very good light, with a smooth and even spread. I keep driving next to cars with OEM hid systems, and they look very similar to mine, except for the slightly yellow color on the 4300 oem bulbs.

I guess I'm just wondering if anyone has the beam pattern for a stock mazda 6 with halogens.

Anyway, has anyone found the oem mazda 6 halogens to be absolutely horrible? They put out very little light, compared to my GF's 2006 Mustang and its reflector headlamps. What is the cause? Crappy projectors? I even changed the bulbs to Osram Nightbreakers, the top rated +90 H1 bulb, and besides making the light whiter, they did not help at all. The high beams, on the other hand, are amazing...well, WERE amazing...HIDs make them look like little yellow flashlights now.
