Protege5
Well, I finally bought the Protege5 after talking with you guys about it for 3 weeks.

I got a black auto/sport with all of the goodies. It is a 2003 with 8k miles on it when I bought it. I paid 13,500 gave them my PT Cruiser for ten grand, gave them 3,500 cash and walked away (well drove away).

I love this car to death! It handles better than the 2002 Mitsu Eclipse that I owned!

NEWBIE question here: I want to put on a CAI like I do on every car I have owned (well the last four anyway) but this car has an extra little sensor that connects to the air intake, what does it do? When I buy a CAI for this car will it have a spot to connect that sensor?

And; who makes the cheapest "bang for the buck" CAI for the Protege5? Is it the same CAI as on a standard Protege?

Thanks for the info guys.

welcome back...please search for CAI's, there are TONS of threads including pics and write-ups...you'll find out what the other sensor does, and where to relocate it.

Thanks for the (no) help.

When I do a search for "CAI" in the Protege5 area you know what I get? A lot of threads that say "Do a search you will find info".

Why can't people just answer the question? Instead of taking time and typing "do a search"?

Man I hate that.

i have a injen cai.. im assuming the black box your talking about is the maf (mass air flow sensor) if that is what you are refering to yes the injen keeps it on there.
good luck and enjoy your car.

Do a search and you might come up with an answer to that question. :D

Your "sediments" huh? Well, I guess that proves how smart you are.

Linux thanks man, the air temp sensor huh? O.k., the other cars that I added CAIs to only had MAF sensor on them so I was curious when I saw that. Do the manufacturers have the clip for the temp sensor?

Usually the make of the CAI has a little hole cut out. Make sure you save the little rubber grommet that the sensor plugs into. you will need it later.

Sentiments. Whatever. Never claimed to be an expert in grammer. But you knew exactly what I meant but yet made a smart-ass reply even after I defended your views on something.

In case you didn't know j/k means just kidding.

Don't know that much about CAI's, but there is basically only one for the P5: the Injen. There are several SRI's though: AEM and HKS being the most popular with quite a few people championing the cheaper Ebay option. I think that's pretty much the info you'll find if you search. (Quick note: CAI's count as a performance thing, so you'll have to do your search in the "Performance" section of this forum. It took me awhile to get used to, but if you can't find it in one section, try another section that might seem it might have some info too.)

Edited: Here's a link to one of the newer CAI threads: http://www.protege5.com/vbb230/showthread.php?s=&threadid=28582

Is it raining in 'Cuse? I can understand your pissed off attitude. I'm from Binghamton.

You see a lot of P5's up there? I was in Bingo in July and didn't see any at all, in fact, I didn't see any at the dealers either.

Actually there are 2 manufacturers that make CAIs for our 2.0L. Injen and K&N (the Typhoon).

I'd go with the Injen since it's around $200 cheaper and still looks damn good.

www.adventon.com has the cheapest $$ on Injen CAI I've seen.

Welcome and enjoy your car!! :D
