Hi all, looking at buying...live in Hawaii.

Hey all,

My wife and I have a second kid coming, and we currently have a 2002 Subaru WRX. Although it'll be a step down in power, my second car is a 3rd Gen Mazda RX-7, so I'm of the mindset that I don't need two fast cars. A 153HP isn't that much to talk about, but I think that I can live with it.

I've looked at every other manufacturer and I just don't see ANYTHING I like over the Mazda 5 regarding price, looks, and the compact nature of the design.

Here's the scoop...I'm working with my local federal credit union to get a pre-approved loan for around 24k to give me some wiggle room. I'll be trading in the WRX for which KBB lists in Fair condition to be $9,510. We still owe $6,635 on it, so we've got a positive balance on it. I've been talking to a sales rep from the current dealer, and he's looking at giving us $7-8k for it depending on the condition. I'm not sure if that's such a good deal, so I'll be bringing the KBB value with me.

Regardless, we're looking at a silver 2008 Mazda 5 Grand Touring edition with a few extras like remote starter, DVD player, rear bumper guard, and all-weather mats. They're telling me MSRP for it 24k and some change because of the add-ons.

For the record, I live in Honolulu, HI...and the dealers here like to charge RIDICULOUS mark-ups...I went to JN Automotive and they wanted to sell the first one I looked at for $29,160 DOLLARS! I almost had a heart attack. I told them that I would be back...but after finding out just how much they were going to rip me off, I said screw it and changed my mind.

My question is...what do you think a reasonable price for a fully-loaded GT would be with the trade-in that I have? What would you take? I'm going back tonight, so this is kinda short notice, but I'd like any help if it's there.

Breakdown:

2008 Mazda 5 Grand Touring (Silver)
MSRP: 24k plus change - Extras - Rear Bumper Guard, DVD, All-Weather floor mats, remote starter, cargo liner

Trade-in:
2002 Subaru Impreza WRX
KBB - $9,510 Fair - $10,720 Good
Dealership offer: $7-8k (lowball?)

Should have pre-approved loan for at least 24k by this afternoon.

What do you think? So thanks a bunch for the help!
