Hi All, just picked up an 02 Protege5 SJ Ca

Hi everybody, I just picked up an 02 Protege5 silver 5 speed with 79K. Has the following options:

ABS
Moonroof
Side airbags
roof rack
crome rims
Cloth interior
cargo tray

Still have lots to learn, this car was from the orig owner who kept most records, I got the black pouch with the manuals, and the window sticker as well, no dings to speak of, interior is spotless.

Only thing is that the AC is not cold, I think I might be able to get it refilled and maybe it will work, the compressor still turns on, who knows, anybody had this problem? We'll see when I get it looked at by my buddy, here are a few pics:

Nice, that car has every option it seems for an 02. As for the A/C it probably just need to be recharged. I bought some R134a Freon in a can from an autoparts store and recharged the system myself, it's simple just plug it into the low pressure line and it fills it right up. If you don't have leaks in the system it will work fine.

Damn maybe I ll do that! do you know if that car had the 6 disc stereo option or the subwoofer in the trunk spare tire? or can I just get the 6 disc stereo and just plug and play it in my car?

Im not sure if the 6 disc was available in 02 but I know the factory subwoofer and tweeters in the front doors were only available on the 03 models. 6 disc changer should be plug and play but I have an aftermarket head unit in my car with my ipod hooked up to it and I enjoy it much more than lugging all my CDs around with me. Not to mention the technology for stereos has improved a lot since these cars were built, and they have pretty cheap stereos to begin with.

wow wish when I got mine it looked that clean. I had to rewire the sound sysetem, have three and a half million door dings pulled out and had the car resprayed with the factory yellow.

Nice car man it looks good.

Planning on modding it any?

Looks extremely clean & well taken care of. And I like the silver + polished wheel combination.

Welcome to the forums!

Thanks guys, unfortunately, I went and had my friend try and put some R134 in today, it took it but still not blowing cold air, even though the AC light lights up, we suspect its the AC compressor.

Has any of you replaced your AC compressor and should I go with a factory AC compressor and where is the best price I can get one for?

He said the compressor put up very low PSI numbers, somewhere around 100 psi which it should be around 200 psi. Anyone have any advise? And does it sound like its the AC compressor.

as it turns out, my ac fan clutch was not even there! the mechanic suspect it fell out as the factory bolt was weak he said!

after $392 for a brand new AC factory fan clutch, and $59 for labor, its blowing ice cold again!!!!!
