Hello, forum.

This is my first post here. I just wanted to drop in and introduce myself. My name is Jeff. I have an '03 MP5, and have had it for a bit over a year and a half now. I've kept mostly everything fairly stock up until now (save for the leather interior all around)... but now with a new promotion and a pretty decent raise, I've finally got a bit more discretionary spending to throw around.

So I guess what I'm trying to say is that I'm pretty new to the P5 tuning scene. I'll try not to ask too many dumb questions, though... I'm an Admin at another forum, so I've got a bit of experience with Senior members of forums "pwning n00bs" and so forth. I'll try my very best not to be one of the faceless, nameless n00batrons that plague the interwebz.

So, again... hello. I think I'll like it here... I've already found some good answers to things I've been wondering about.

I feel good about this.

Welcome Jeff! Here's the general order I went in to start:

1) CAI
2) MSP exhaust
3) HID and painted headlights
4) JDM tails
5) B&M shortshifter
and a while later once I finally had enough money to do it right...
Tokico HP struts and Espelir springs
MP3 rims

Have fun and post pics!

Welcome! Glad to have you here!

Mine came with an Injen CAI...Which I am really happy with. Next, I got the MSP exhaust and love it. After that, I did wheels, tires, window tint, & DaveB gauge rings. I have a short shifter coming and can't wait for that. I also changed out the stock stereo and speakers. I'd like to enhance the suspension when I get some money.

But anyhow...Those are some common mods that are easy. And there are lots of great people here to help you along. Also, there is an awesome search feature that has been my savior many times. LOL! I have learned so much about the car just reading through these forums.

Thanks a lot, everyone.

The first things I have planned as of now (in no particular order) are:

Springs.

Intake. (Still doing the eternal CAI vs. SRI debate. The idea of driving through a puddle and destroying the engine scares the s**** out of me. I know there are things that can be done to avoid that, but even so... Plus I do enjoy the gargle of the SRI.)

Wheels & Tires. (17" or 18"??)

Head Unit and Other Audio.

Perhaps darker tint. Thing is.. tint laws in Wisconsin are pretty harsh. I'm not certain I want the added attention, because cops aren't shy about pulling people over for tint.

HID is always a fun one, huh?

I'll be sure to keep you all posted. It'll likely be a pretty long process.. but I've finally decided to start in on it, because my warranty runs out in 300 miles (had it in the shop last week to do some checks, everything's pretty much good for now, except for a wheel speed sensor that's on-order)... And I've also decided to hang onto this car for a while longer since I can't quite justify spending as much per month on insurance for an RX-8 as they quoted me. That was a pooly-structured sentance.

Ok... I'm done rambling now. Off to read the forums...

I also forgot about the shortshifters I've been looking at. Add that to the list, for sure...

Springs: do a search for the brands your looking for. Espelirs are highly rated on this forum...they're great...if you can find them...

For rims, I was going to go with 18s, but you have to run a rubber band for a tire (205/35/18). If you go with 17s you can have your choice of sizes (205 or 215/40 or 45/17) and they'll be a whole lot more comfortable...if you care about that at all.

And as for the CAI vs. SRI debate, In the 3.5 years I've been on these forums, I don't think I've heard of one person on these forums who has waterlogged their engine with a CAI. so...yeah.

Thanks for the input.

I agree about the wheel size. In fact, earlier this evening while talking to a friend of mine, I used that exact terminology ("rubber band") while I was explaining why I was leaning towards 17s. Not to mention price... not that anyone cares about price, anyway. :)
