Hey everyone, new to the boards

its not going fast enough to prove its an unbalanced tire.. I forgot to mention.. I'm a porsche mechanic.. Mechanic everyday..

I am just asking if you know what it may be is because it may be a common problem on the protege.. know nothing about protege. As far as seized caliper. it did just go through a certification, but i guess that doesn't mean anything.. Cause all the mechainic did is sign the paper.. But brakes feel really good..

But, the way the wobble shake feels... if its still there when i go back in an hour, i am going to check one of the front tires to see if there is a bulge, or inner strap broken... The way it comes through the steering wheel, its the front end..

Well now I feel like an ass. Didn't know you were a mechanic.

I just mentioned the caliper because mine had the same symptoms when I picked mine up only I did not know what the problem was at the time but I told them to fix it and they didn't. Only did I find out later after two sets of brake pads.

What you're exsperiencing seems to be quite common on the P5 and it's usually the front passenger.

thanks angel. I will look at that when i go. I am going again there in a few minutes.. it may explain the pulling to the right...

BTW - that you in your pic??? (naughty)

well. i was correct.. it had 2 defective tires on the front.. they both had bad straps or whatever in the front.. So they went to put new ones on, and they had non.. so they are having them shipped overnight so I get the car tomorrow now.
Its been rough buying this car, quite a journey i tell you.

Welcome to the boards.... I got an auto for the same reason; not to mod;

well that didn't work... :) good luck with it, hope everything works out for you

Glad to hear they are accomendating you. Your journey may have started a little rough, but you are going to enjoy the rest of it!!

Hey Crazy. So you ended up modding eh? What mods did you do? Everyone here says I am going to end up modding.
Well.. I may do what I consider soft mods. Tint, lights.
I would never consider turboing it. I drive enough turbo's that mine doesn't have to be.

And the main reason I got automatic, was so I could get the remote starter. LOL how lazy is that? I know you can do it to standards, but that means leaving it out of gear all the time.

My bad, never even thought about the belts. I've never had any real trouble with tires...I know a lot of people who have but they drive like they stole it..explains ALOT! lol

I've only ever had one belt go, on a car I used to drive. When I took the tire to the tire guys they replaced it for free. The tire guy told me anytime a belt goes it's considered a defect in the tire and they replace it for free..I was like wow...wasn't exspecting that. The guy got a good laugh as I tried to hide my excitement of not having to pay $120+ :)

Man..You P5'ers never cease to amaze me after all these years...You guys are so friendly and helpful!

Welcome Midrange! (hi)

I'll bet in a couple weeks you will add some sort of mod based on a thread you read here...haha...BTW...Awesome sig line ;)

well i plan too.. it has low millage.. so i plan to take care of it.. Glad to say I finally have it in my posession.. Only thing thats a bummer is the car is totally mint except one tiny little dent in the roof.. But i am going to get that fixed.. !
I noticed the interior dash lights are not the brightest, and i find the stereo doesn't have the best of sound......

I am new here, I have had my 2002 Protege5 for 7 months, love it! In need of new tires now, any recommendations? I noticed that people seem to be unhappy with dunlop? What is the best out there for the 195 50 R16? They seem hard to come by...

I run 195/50/16 Dunlop Graspec for winter, cheapest ones I could find at $134and they are a hard size to find...some people go up to a 205 but I don't recommend it, and I run Toyo Proxy's same size for the summer but this spring my new wheels will go on...still gonna run with Toyo's just a different kind...a tade bit pricey but a wicked tire IMO.

Why not? I just went with a 205 and so far have liked them. Plus there is a bigger selection to choose from.

To answer Jr88's question try searching here (a lot of threads out there on tires for the P5) as well as http://www.tirerack.com and http://www.discounttiredirect.com

because you should always stay within a 3% diameter difference of your original tire size or you can have serious brake issues.

if he's putting winters on the stock 16's they should be the stock tire size 195/50/16 [better for snow anyways] but a 205 is fine as long as it's a 50. If you want to put 205/55's on (because they are easier to find) that's fine but they should not go on the stock 16's but a set of 15's instead.

I agree on the snows, the thinner the tire the better. A 205/50 is a 1.67% difference and a 205/45 is a 1.74% difference. The 205/55 is a 4.83% difference but IIRC there is a member here running that size without issues?

i never had an issue with upgrading my tie size on my mx6.. i went from a 195-65-14 to a 245-40-18 and it gave me no issues with braking, or speedo.

no sure if its any different for the P5. But I do know the new tires i just had put on were 195-50-16.. and they ride great..
