Hesitation / sputtering?

Ive never really felt any sputter or hesitation that ive seen here on these forums until a few weeks ago and yesterday. Yesterday was the 2nd time it happened. Basically I was at 3K rpm in 4rth gear and went to about 80% throttle. Kind of a dumb move I usually ease into the throttle and I should have probably been in 3rd but my car was running slower than usual so i was a bit pissed.

Anyway almost immediatly i heard a weird rattle / tapping sound that lasted about 1 second. My power also hesitated as this happened. Very scary noise but is this what sputtering and/or hesitation is?? The noise also seems to come from the right side of the engine (if your in the car).

you get your boost under control? could have a bent rod, just waiting to swing out the side of your block.

otherwise, my sputter happens at 2800 and the sound you hear in the car is to me, more like a relay clicking off and on, but faster and louder. as soon as i let off it goes away.

and *knock on wood* i havent had that happen in a while...

I hope its not a bent rod because I really dont push my car often. Ive only laucnhed it maybe 5 times in the year ive had it. The noise first happened before I even had my TMIC so my boost was fine. Recently my boost has been more under control. I guess somedays my car just unleashes the beast inside and holds 20 psi. Most days its holding 18 though.

Anyway to tell if I have a bent rod ??

The noise is hard to describe. Hmmm. I guess sorta like a metal hanger being moved around the engine bay for a second. Very scary.

If it only happened that 1 time it was probably knock ... if it's still happening it could be a bent rod.

if its a rod knock trust me ull know ah its not somethin that just goes away. i had a knock that u can hear but it didnt sound like a rod knock it was jsut a tap an i could hear it from inside but when i stepped on the throttle a lil it just kinda went away but wen i let the throttle go it came back idk it was weird but mazda dealers put a new motor in an its not doin it..im jsut curious if anyone has any idea wat it was?
